Just thought up this random idea while driving in the car, so I thought I'd post it here so as not to forget and see what people thought:

Currently, everybody basically has the same base speed value for what 100 speed will get you. It's modified by height/weight a little, along with acceleration, but not a huge amount.

So here's the idea for a new attribute:

Each player has a "weight class," or whatever we want to call it, defined by how heavy they are and what position they are.

Each "weight class" would have a base max speed and acceleration value that having 100 speed gets you. We could convert this into 40 times or something to make it easy to understand, and base it on top NFL combine scores for various positions.

Each "weight class" would also factor into blocking, breaking blocks, and tackling, as bonuses.

We figure out the base weight classes for each player currently in the game, and put it on their profile page for reference.

For instance, you could have something like:

Class lightweight < 160 lbs : base 3.75s 40, -20% block/break block penalty
Class middleweight 161-190 lbs : base 4.0s 40, -10% block/break block penalty
Class light heavyweight 191-225 lbs : base 4.25s 40, +0% block bonus
Class heavyweight 225-260 lbs : base 4.5s 40, +10% block bonus
Class super heavyweight 261 - 300lbs : base 4.75s 40, +20% block bonus
Class OMGweight 301+lbs : base 5s 40, +30% block bonus

etc. etc.

Here's the part that I think could be kinda interesting: You could adjust your weight class through training or special skills (perhaps veteran abilities?). Maybe you're in the middleweight class but you want to move down to lightweight to be faster, so you choose a skill to do so, etc.

Something like this could make it so we could show calculated 40 times for different players, etc. on their profile. It'd let you know what you're getting for your weight or lack of it, too.

That sealed the deal right there.

I like it.. I always thought weight should have an effect, be it a little, but some effect.

If you lose weight to get faster, shouldnt you also lose a hair or two of strength?

Somebody just suggested this today, actually. It makes sense.

Maybe have lose/gain weight be a normal training option?

You don't need to be a veteran to go on a diet.

I like it. You just thought of this...right. Where were you 3 seasons ago when I just thought of this. J/K.

I, of course, like this idea.

this may mean some CB's (or any position) created in season 1 would be better than others just because the owner was unaware to make sure his players weight fell in the "correct" category.

Could certainly be doable.

As for the skill idea, I was actually thinking of having a vet skill where you keep the same weight but are able to have the speed or bonus as one class up/down from your "natural" class.

Could you also gain weight to lose speed but help blocking

Damn it...so the veteran skills are going to be more like perks. I suggested this too in season 2 or 3. Bort, why don't you return my calls?

That'd be pretty neat
