LOL, yeah they are kinda heading in that direction. I've wanted to do something like that since about season 2/3, but it wasn't until drifter suggested the idea of vet skills that it "clicked" as to how to make it work.

You actually know how to drive a car? I thought you just coded all day long

I like the idea but what happens to the players that were already created knowing weight didn't affect them?

Also, I think something like this should be added in for jumping/height as well.

I thought it did...but it was a slight effect. Were we lied to?

Its the same "slight effect" weight gets for speed I'm guessing.

I truthfully coudlnt tell ya if it has a impact or not. I can't tell from any of the games.

I figure if weight/speed needed to be redone then this one would too.

Yeah, there's already an effect for weight, but this way would allow it to become more pronounced and editable by the player to further customize him.

Could these "classes" also be modified to work with Strength also?

I get a powerback is STR heavy, but I've seen HB's with more strength than lvl 30 C. I don't think that should be happening either.

I hate to be against the man on this but I have to be.

First, its looking like you're trying to solve the Defensive End vs. Offensive Tackle problem with this. Really, thats the only position where anyone has an issue with speed/weight and I'm also taking a guess based on your values being focused directly on speed and blocking/block breaking ability. Lets not revamp the entire game to do that, all that will end up happening is you'll make every WR and DB a 160lb. In fact, you may make everyone in the game minus offensive linemen, blocking tight ends and full backs into that, seeing as speed backs and speedy linebackers are hugely popular.

Second, I was liking the idea of making strength an essential attribute to breaking blocks. Not sure how the game was coded but you figure a Defensive Lineman or any other defensive player needs to deal with the fact of an offensive player getting their hands on them when they are within an arms length. I doubt any swim or rip moves would work well for Dwight Freeney if he weren't very strong as well as quick on his feet. Also make it a pancake issue, because when Offensive Linemen get out into the open field, if they can get to a Defensive Back who typically has less strength that guy gets flattened 90% of the time. Granted there's stuff to take into account like the fact that the Offensive Lineman has momentum behind him but that deals with how things are coded and I don't know about that.

If defensive linemen have to increase their strength to be in any way effective, you will effectively slow them down some. The balance is in making sure that the speed rusher is still viable against a slow offensive tackle and that the bull rusher is viable against the weaker offensive tackle. A balanced Offensive Tackle facing either of those guys should have some trouble but not too much and a balanced Offensive Tackle against a balanced Defensive End should be a coin flip if they are built equally well under the system.

Tinkering with things like weight and whatnot.. I don't like it, not when the realism can be put into the attributes that we build our players with.

So would you be able to pick a players weight class when you created him?

Will there be a max you could gain or lose within a certain period to prevent people change so drastically?

If he is then I'll handle the rest of the post. However I think this is just a good idea. Bigger people are slower. More adding an element of realism than trying to "fix" a "problem"

Yeah. Height/weight is already figured into breaking tackles or making tackles, breaking blocks, holding blocks, etc.

I'm mainly thinking that if it was more of a published value via a "weight class," it could become:

a) easier to figure out how weight affects your player
b) another something to modify to customize your player

I definitely could be wrong, gonna have to wait and see if he replies on the matter. I just can't see another reason for doing this, every other position is well balanced in terms of Speed/Agility and Weight (WRs, DBs, RBs, TEs, LBs, Ks, Ps, FBs [it got fun after a while]) its just the DEs and DTs that cause the big stirs.
