My team the Cavaliers lost a game that in all respects but the final score was a close affair. Our opponents were 15-20 levels higher than us and we went toe-to-toe for most of the game. 17-7 down before the half time whistle and then the kick (or punt) in the teeth set in.

The 69-7 scoreline doesn't show how well we competed. We stopped a stong offense for under 300 yards but turnovers did hurt. But that's not my complaint.

My complaint is this: we were aware that they had a slick returner and we had a special team in place to deal with that threat. heck one of our OL got 20 odd pancakes with some from ST duty (this is against players 15-20 levels higher remember). But time and time again the punter would punt it to the hands of this returner only for us to give up 5 TDs!!! 5!!!

Suffice to say that the punter in question is not a bad build. without sharing his build too much:

My suggestion to resolve this irritating SIM? Give more control to the punter as to where to kick the ball to rather than punting it into the hands. So instead of having the ST struggle due to the dodgy lanes and so on why not just eliminate that with the punter strategically punt into 'touch' as we say in rugby.

Territorial strategy.

Our defense did a decent job of containing a fierce offense so why not give us the power to play to our strength rather than give up the ball?

Strategy. Plain and simple.

Special teams really needs fixing, and there is already a thread in the epic suggestions forum.

I know this is pretty much been closed. But one thing I'd like to point out is that you held a fierce offense to less than 300 yards because you gave up 5 punt return TDs. That was 5 less possessions their offense had a chance to beat you. Do you see how many times you forced them to punt? 0. You didn't shut them down. You did a good job on their running game, but the QB was 21-25 passing. You have to into account the entire game, special teams is part of that. You were not that close.

Special teams needs to be fixed, yes. But don't fool yourself into thinking you had a chance to win that game.

it would have been a miracle had we pulled off a win. they have a rushing QB that made gameplanning very difficult and set out to stop that threat at appropriate times without stretching the defense too much.

we had the best passing defense cross conference but we had to alter things to avoid the huge gains from their backs. remember they are 40+ we are 25-32. they have more time to build well rounded players and we did what we could to keep them off the field.

yielding 400 yards from a returns game was enough to push us off the scent. our offense was designed to manage time and the defense was designed to stop the dominant runs. we had to sacrifice something. but what we didn't expect was a mauling due to the punt returns.

i am no fool for thinking we could win. miracle or not.

I can sum it up in one word: builds. You guys played us as well as you could. But I'll be honest, I don't think you had a chance to win either. Our builds are good at our level, much less vastly superior to builds between Levels 25-32. This isn't to say you guys have bad builds. Your punter appears to be better per his level than ours is but a chance did not exist so far as I can see.

We haven't changed stuff this season so we were easy to gameplan too. We could have changed tactics some and bombed it out in the 4th quarter to run it up, but I figure we're better off with screen passes.
