I have discussed with bort and several other moderators an idea to work on an official GLB Hall of Fame and received permission to go forward with it.
I will list the charter below in full. In it you can read the responsibilities that committee members will have. The short version is that during a typical season, committee members along with myself will take nominees from the user base, narrow them down in several stages to 10 finalists, of which the user base will vote on 5 for induction. This will be done via a GLB wide poll just like the normal polling system. For the first season only we will be inducting 25 players instead of only 5.
My first order of business is to create a committee of 24 other GLB users. Ideally a committee member will be very committed to GLB, will be very knowledgeable about GLB, will be willing to collect nominees and discuss them in a civil way, and will be willing to perform these duties without bias or partisanship. If you are interested, please send me a PM letting me know why you would do a good job, what (if any) experience you have with any kind of organized GLB clubs (drafts, rankings, custom leagues, etc.) and in general what you feel you would chiefly contribute to the process.
PLEASE DO NOT POST PLAYER NOMINATIONS HERE!!! Once a selection committee has been finalized we will begin taking player nominations. So start thinking about them, just don't post them here yet.

∟The initial class of the Hall of Fame will be made of 25 players. The initial class will be treated in many ways like a special case and unlike successive classes. Details on this will be listed below.
∟Each successive class of the Hall of Fame will be made of 5 players.
∟Eligibility – Players
∟Player must have played at least 8 full seasons (Super Slow Building seasons do not count).
∟Player must be retired. The only exception to this rule is the first class.
∟Player must have retained his name – if he has not, his name can be given back to him by an admin if his owner wishes it
∟Qualifications – Players
Players will be judged on the following criteria:
∟Overall excellence – This player must have been considered either the best, or in the discussion for the best at his position during a multi-season span.
∟Level of Competition – This player must have put up his numbers against even level of competition for a significant portion of his career; players who spent their careers padding stats against inferior teams will not be considered.
∟Impact on His Team – This player must have had a dramatic impact on the success of his team.
∟Impact on the Game – Consideration may also be given to players who redefined certain positions or pushed their limits in a way that was positive for the game. This consideration is secondary to the others, however, as we place a greater value on excellence than on significance to the game as a whole.
Selection Process
∟Commisioner
∟I (tpaterniti) will begin as commssioner. I will likely either add other co-commissioners or hand over my spot to another if this course of action seems to the rest of the selection committee both expedient and beneficial.
∟The role of the commissioner will be one of leadership, organization, and coordination. His vote will never carry more weight in deciding candidates that the vote of any other member of the selection committee.
∟The commisioner will be responsible for choosing a selection committee.
∟The commisioner will be responsible for collecting nominees from the user base and for narrowing them down within reason. He may also nominate candidates himself.
∟Selection Committee
∟The selection committee will be made of 25 members (including the commisioner).
∟The selection committee will be responsible for helping the commissioner collect nominees from the user base and they will have an unspecified role narrowing them down within reason. They may also nominate candidates themselves.
∟Committee members may relinquish their seats if the necessity to do so arises. New committee members will be selected by the commisioner with strong input from the current committee members.
∟Selection Process – Players
∟Phase 1: The commisioner along with the selection committee members will both make nominees and collect them from the user base.
∟Phase 2: The commisioner along with the selection committee members will narrow down these nominees within reason (i.e. players who do not qualify or who received only a single nomination may be eliminated from consideration early in the process).
∟Phase 3: The selection committee (including the commissioner) will narrow the list of nominated players to 25 for every 5 to be inducted.
∟Phase 4: The selection committee (including the commissioner) will narrow the list of nominated players to 10 for every 5 to be inducted.
∟Phase 5: The user base will vote on the 10 remaining players to select the 5 who are to be inducted.
∟The first class will follow this process in 5 waves, which may be run more-or-less simultaneously depending on the circumstances, resulting ultimately in 25 players inducted.

∟A custom Hall of Fame trophy will be awarded to the player page (and possibly to the user page of the player's owner as well) of the player inducted into the Hall of Fame.
