NEWS BREAK: GARUDAS, GARUDA WIN SUPER WOK
SE ASIA (AP) -- Two seasons after winning Super Wok XII, the Krungthep Garudas will be returning to the World League as SEA Pro champions for a second time.
The Garudas stifled Naga's top offensive team to pick up gold with a 38-13 win over the NBA Jam on Friday.
The Garudas marched through the playoffs with a recipe for success that would be boring if it wasn't so effective: control the clock with the running game, shut down the other team's offense.
And Friday's game was no exception.
The Garudas racked up nearly twice as many yards as the Jam, won time of possesion by more than 16 minutes and blew up the Jam passing game with seven sacks. NBA was out-rushed 198 yards to 91 and out-passed 291 yards to 164.
Elite Jam quarterback Canton Rifle was held to his worst game of the season, a 15-of-44 performance for only 164 yards and one TD. And world-beating RB Tuck Fulane only took the field for 7 plays in a head-scratching decision by the Jam. Fulane picked up 68 yards on 4 rushes for 17 yards a carry.
Krungthep QB ‡ M§ÍV€ • ÅttÂÇK ‡, on the the other hand, threw three short TD passes to go with 291 yards on 20-of-42 passing. All-world running back Wendigo © had a muted role (for him, at least) in the championship game, a move that looked to have caught Jam coordinators by surprise. Wendigo rushed the ball 29 times for 138 yards. He didn't find the end zone, but he did punish the Jam defense with 39 broken tackles.
This is the second Super Wok trophy for Krungthep, who previously won the title with a 19-7 win over the Buffalo Rampage in Season 12. The Garudas became the first team to win the Super Wok as a representative from both conferences after previously becoming the first team to win each conference's championship.
This was the Garudas' first season in the similarly named conference after being demoted from World League after last season's 5-11.
