Isn't there a rule against bumping something too much ?

Not that I know of. I think there is a rule against bumping something super duper old.

Also how is this not epic yet?

Epic is a curse. I'm just looking for more suggestions, really.

I like the ideas presented here, but lets face it, Bort has mostly totally fracked up the current sliders, so adding more sliders would just be more things that do not work. I really love the assignment/improvised slider. It would really need to be tied to skillsets though. If you set to 90% improvise with low vision, then you should be making "dumb" mistakes frequently as you misread plays.

For RBs:

Wait for blockers v. Take off running

Make it into a slider. A RB who leans more towards waiting for his blockers will be more likely to slow down and wait to see an opening or wait for lead blockers to get in front of him. A RB who leans towards taking off running will do exactly that - often passing up his blockers.

I can see advantages and disadvantages to either.

I am wondering, why stop at sliders? Why not give each player their own AI, and let them set when a slider is at a certtian level at a certain times in the game.

This wouldn't be mandantory, of course. Use basic sliders for casual leagues, and have advanced AI available for advanced leagues

Because that would depend heavily on the game plan by the coordinator, and would basically require the game plan to be visible by everybody. That's just going way too far in terms of complexity. Besides, I'm not sure how you'd break those up.

ok i posted this in the game mechanics forum you have staz - but i think i will posts here as well

i know this may be somewhat complex and may be more than what you or anyone may be looking to add to tactics but ill add it here and it will also give this thread a bump at least

ok stay with me here

Defense in general reacts way to quickly - almost as if they know in advance whether a play is run or pass - no penalty to knowing that quickly
what if all defenders had individual tactics for certain situations
- its 3rd and 1or 2 - you know they are most likely to run the ball
- you have individual tactics for that situation for your player(s), you say 3rd and short play run aggressively and play pass soft
- so it would make it that whatever players have this setting are pretty much playing run no matter what and if the entire D is set to this - they are all looking run in this situation - now that means that if it is a run there is a god chance they can keep it from being a big gainer or even possibly stop them short of first down
- now this also makes it interesting for an OC - if he has been almost all run in that situation in the past and is looking for an advantage against an aggressive team or a team he feels he needs to take some chances against and mix things up he throws some pass plays in that situation - which then if the entire D is all out run, the O has a slight advantage as everyone on D's first read is run - this could lead to a lot more chess match type play that football needs to be

this can be more advanced as i have above and i dont know if situations would need to implemented already into a players tactics paget or if a players tactics could somehow be as advanced as an AI - where you come up with your own inputs and outputs - so any player could make their tactics as advanced as they want or go with just the basics that are there already

-if you have a D coordinator that wants to give everyone the situations he uses and what he thinks would be best settings for the players to match up with the plays he is running in this situations and for what he is game planning for

or if every player had some options that was addd to player tacticsthat adds for every player such as - 3rd and short(0-2 yds), 4th and short(0-2 yds), 3rd and long(7+ yards), etc but then all situations to have aggressiveness settings for run and pass or just to choose whether you play run or pass and an aggressiveness level
- if you play a particular situation heavy on run(attack) or pass(drop back to protect) you will favor what it is you are looking for and may be out of position if the other type of play is called
- if you play balanced you dont over react to one type of play but wait and read what the play is and then react to what you see
- if you were to play soft you would key on what it is you think they may bring such as a run but and will react for a run but wont take yourself out of position to make a play right away if a pass would be called

i hope this all makes sense - im sure the idea needs cleaned up some but this just came to yesterday and i wanted to get what i was thinking down and get some ideas form others on it

i think there need to be more risk/reward for how players play and the chances that defenses take

i think the tactics could allow for alot of specialization for not only players but gameplans as well, and the offense would obviously need something similar if something like this were to be implemented

but i would like to see defense have a penalty for committing the entire D to stop something and also give an offense some things to think about and actually maybe doing something different and changing how they do things in certain situations

I support all of the individual player tactics, though I don't like the idea of adding another thing to the DAI

I like everything I've read. Especially adding defensive play focus to AI, opens a lot of "trick plays" up.
