so i hear about bling etc. and see the salary cap its all geared towards team owners and making a players salary useless outside training and EQ,
obviously to give things meaning means some overhauls feel free to add etc .
this will be in 3 parts lets start with

1)Bling- it comes in many forms not just the chains etc. a player wears but the car he drives the house he owns and what he does off the field with team mates or in the community . make this stuff expensive for the most part

make a personality type in addition to archetype, archetype covers skills. personality is the other side of a player or coach how often do you see a superstar sign for big bucks then turn into poison and drag a team down ? T.O. leaps to mind

then make a personality type available with associated Bling /possesions etc. that give the player not just bonuses in certain areas but negatives in others here are some examples to start

Bad Ass- This player gets a bonus to all intimidation skills,gets a bonus on confidence not likely to receive endorsements due to off field issues.more likely to get a penalty call (although i have only ever seen false start or offsides calls)get a minus on all leaderrship skills line general etc to all players not in his personality typeas well as a minus on stamina due to the hard lifestyle

bling types -
Tattoos a + to strength or confidence
Karate lessons- increasing cost with each belt + to confidence or agility or speed i suggest making these random so players can not overload into one attribute like they can with eq
whiskey bottle- major boost to players morale and confidenceminor morale loss to players around him as well as a minus to strength / stamina.
maybe several brands with more potent pluses and minuses

custom Harleys- plus to intimidation SAs depending on type

bar room brawl- minus to fame - to team chem,-to strength stamina and vision next game for player and team mates invited can only invite similiar personality types
plus to leadership skills with all team mates involved, less likely to get penalties afterward for a certain number of games + to hitting abilities and increased chance of ints or fumbles for a certain number of games and a plus to one random intimidation ability for all players involved.
special for bad ass type coaches can not staop a bar room brawl ( see coaches later)


The Playahs
this personality type is all about living large and self promotion. they gain fame more quickly and are more likely to receive endorsements due to their needing the spotlight.
due to self interest they get a plus to confidence and a minus on leadership like the bad ass.
they get a plus to all SAs that apply to getting in the spotlight the TD the highlight reel etc.
a special - to this type is they can not be set to play hard if they do not get a set number of plays or are not named starter
Bling-
Gold chains and rings - plus to confidence and one prime attribute
Posse and bodyguards- same as karate above except you add people instead of earn belts
Ho's,prostitutes, party girl call em what you want-see whiskey
Limos -+ to highlight big play SAs
Party with the Boyz- see bar room brawl

All Heart-
these guys are average at endorsements and fame . they would play the game for free if they had to just to play. they get a plus to stamina and a very small bonus to either all training or a slight increase to the chance of training breakthroughs they get an increase to doing the second effort things like breaking through or extra yardage SA firing . they may not make the highlight reel but they get the job done.
special bonus these guys always play at only hard intensity with the only mormal stamina cost

Bling-
Home gym- see tattoos,chains
Session with personal trainer- see karate
Date night-see whiskey the morale increase with no loss to str/sta or others morale
sports car- bonus to SAs for extra yds breakthrough etc.

chip in - these guys make an effort to get along with all personality types so while they can not do party bonuses they can "chip In" to provide a minor bonus that applies to all positives and negatives

Choir boy -
these guys are the golden boys who do no wrong. they get a plus to fame and endorsements. they also get a plus to all leadership skills . they are able to focus on doing all the small things riight and a significanlyt less likely to get penalties . negative to intimidation skills atc.

Bling-
Suits-see tattos
Community service-see karate the more projects he helps the better special bonus to fame
Family night - see whiskey no minuses
luxury car- bonus to precision SAs tight spiral , super vision etc depending on model

buy dinner for unit/team - player can buy a dinner for all players in pos /unit/or team . .
gives everyincreased confidence and stamina for next game as well as increase in a prime attribute for several games , increases all players involved morale and gives a temporary boost to leadership SA for player

choirboys can not partipate in bar room brawls or part with the Boyz


if this is done then salary has meaning which lead us to fame

2) Fame- now that there is a salarycap and bling fame means something because it leads to endorsements . i would suggest adding one more feature such as minimum salary being tied to fame for every point of fame a player is required to receive an extra 20$ a season in salary
. this way if you have a man who is famous with tons of cash he cant just take minimum salary for his level then party all the team up

3) coaches - cant let your players guzzle whiskey and party with hos all the time especially when this stuff effects team morale with the exception of barroom brawl anything that negatively may effect a player at game time or a team at game time must have the coaches approval if no coach then the owner
most of this stuff should not be affordable to a player early in his career with the exception of the first few items listed.
Bling should definitely not be implemented til the salary caps are in place

add more bling personalities etc

i would do more but this is enough i am not getting paid for this i just want the game to be fun
maybe use a franchise player option for owners it would make personalities and salary consideration part of the equation , bad asses sell more beer to low income, plasyahs more nachos and beer to medium income, heart guys more micro breww and jerseys to middle income
choir biys more ticket sales and a minor boost to all concessions . etc.

i just read your title. Making salary more important makes my job as an owner hell. Gives the agents more power, gives the owner less power. As we have none already.

never heard of it i was thinking of cash being relevant and giving owners options and teams a persona
bad asses =raiders of the 70s
heart -steelers of the 70s
choir boys -cowboys in the same era

as for owner having no power pm the agent you dont have to sign them . ask the guy who has his kicker being used as a punter if he feels powerful
owners offer contracts , agents sign no one twists either ones arm
i am an owner and an agent . making money relevant might help even the playing field and reward you for actually putting thought into signings and finances .the only other reason to own a team is because you just made another mediocre QB and HB and you yourself are the only one who would sign and start that build .

I think the personality system would be sick,

Bling too, maybe with a different name.

But make Bling use-able for all players, not just make certain blings for certain personalities. Maybe 1 unique bling for each personality, not all of them.

Definitly love the idea, but will definitly need fine tuning as many aspects could have better approaches.

I definitely agree that the next big project NEEDS, and I repeat NEEDS to be the sim and making it resemble REAL FOOTBALL. I'm talking just the mechanics, not the stats (inflated stats, if achieved in a realistic manner, are just fine).

However, once those issues are addressed, I'd be open for something like this, as long as it was well thought out, well planned, and an "option", not something that was forced. Also, would need a reason to pick each option, and would need to have a risk/reward for each type.

this suggestion was not intended to take priority over sim fixes.
i agree that this is something that can be placed on hold while more important projects get done but as players accumulate money with salary being a pretty much pointless exercise. i feel one of the aspects lacking here is the roleplaying part of this as a MMORPG.
staz said it probably should not be forced like the archetypes . but lets be realistic if your player and team can gain an in sim advantage by using it will you ignore it?
real teams are based not just off skills but personalities and how they blend together

my favorite MNF memory watching Bo all heart Jackson from 5 yards out face off against Brian Bad Ass Bosworth .
He left cleat marks all over bosworth thundering in for a touchdown and bosworth quit football soon after because he was not as bad ass as his reputation.

our favorite memoriesof football are not just defined by the skills of the players but the personalties of those making the plays.

I would tend to agree -- more and more owner stuff being put in, and less and less agent stuff. IF this is indeed an RPG, let's get some RPG stuff into it. But I think we may be in the minority. I've put some personas into some of my players, and have actually been CUT from teams because it. For example, I have a receiver who used to act like TO -- it's all ME ME ME. These were simply posts in the forums, and I pissed some people off enough that they one person was even sending me harassing IMs. Crazy how stupid people can get.

like the title, hate the content of your suggestion. I dont want to see dot bling and dot bar brawls personally. If someone can suggest something similar, but better, I'd +1 it.
