OK, the new information has been added to this old BZ bug file and I am closing this back up.

It seems like it is going to be low on the priority list, but it is at least on the list.

was a catch for about 13.5 yards, then about a yard running forward, then the fumble went backwards and lost about 2 yards before it was recovered for a net 12.5 yard gain. It was recorded in the stats as a 0 yard reception with a -13.5 yard YAC.

One important difference in this play compared to other plays that I saw was that the negative YAC incorrectly assigned was higher in absolute value terms than the yardage achieved by the play. Other receptions with fumbles typically gained more yardage on the play than the absolute value of negative YAC yardage incorrectly assigned.

However, it seems to fit with the general theory that in the case of a fumble after a catch the negative YAC that GLB assigns is equal to the forward yardage the ball was thrown in the air and ignores any positive yardage from running that the receiver makes before the fumble.
