Now that we have the Global Team ranking, I suggest we use it to seed the GLB league tournaments. Any sort of seeding would be better than the current random seeding. By using the global ranking system to seed teams, it accomplished two different things.

1. Separates the best teams in an age group, at least to a first degree, from meeting up in the early rounds. Nobody wants to see two of the best teams in an age group have to face in the first round, with the winner facing the next best team in the 2nd round, while the opposite side of the bracket is filled with a good team and a bunch of lower level teams.

2. Allows the Global Ranking system to actually be used for something. While it's nice to compare our teams against one another, that's really all the ranking system is doing now.

It should be really easy to implement, and while I understand it's too late to do anything about the brackets this season, it would be a welcomed addition to future tournaments.

Great idea that would add a level of realism/legitimacy to the GLB tournaments!

The problem with this is that the ranking is not remotely accurate until 4 or 5 games are played. The current ranking is based on last season's results and does not consider roster changes. As an example: http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=4603 . This team was in WL last season and thus was ranked in the top 30 of GLB teams. However, it is a Rookie team now (probably the highest ranked one using the GLB rankings) and thus is not even close to a top 30 team in GLB.

Just because the global rank doesn't reflect the current team at all times. New owners, new dots, etc. are not reflected until after multiple games.

I think avg player value is a better indicator.

Why not start the tourney on day 10 or so?

Sorry to yello up this thread but I wanted to address that.

Chances are if a team was good enough to make the WL (and in fact do well there) they are probably good enough at building dots that their rookie team should be a higher seed than a brand new rookie team. They deserve the higher seeding by virtue of past performance. While the global rankings could use some tweaking they are a good barometer of what a team did the season before and therefore useful for seeding the tournaments. Lower seeded teams could still win if they improved and the higher seeded team fell off but at least it would help alleviate some early matchups between powerhouse teams in the age group.

Agree to both these points.

For the Pro tournament, Round 1 is currently 128 games/byes. Round 2 will be 64. Round 3 will be 32, Round 4 will be 16, Round 5 will be 8, Round 6 will be 4, Round 7 will be 2, and Round 8 is the finals.

If they started on Day 10, they would have to sim tournament games every 2-3 days in order to complete the tournament before the playoffs. Basically, you are fitting up to 8 scrims + 11 regular season games into a 22 day window, leaving you only 3 days off. Since you can't have multiple scrims on a day, that means that any team that thinks they could go deep in the tournament can not afford to be a part of any other tournament really.

for the record I'm not against the idea. if anything it would help my team as we would almost always the in the top 20 and get a bye. I just wanted to point out that the rankings are from last season and thus are flawed.

you gotta fix the ranking system first...otherwise its only a little less of a shot in the dark....teams shouldnt be able to drop lower than other teams that they can crush....this is evident when regional pro teams who have poor records are ranked below some undefeated rookie teams....

This.

I really like the idea, I think the tourneys should be seeded. But as stated above...the rankings are really only relevant for the WL & PL...you go down much further and they're basically random numbers.

Not sure what the proper fix is but DEFINITELY NEEDS ONE...
