Think of it like this, at the start of the play a player goes to the postion of the zone, then with checks he sees the TE running his way, he wants to be X distace deeper then the TE therfore he backs up and this repeasts until the TE makes a cut straght, or the ball is thrown in whichcase both times the FS should react to it.

Deep is aproximity deeper then the deepest guy on the offence no set distance.
