Why does the HB catch the ball and not even move for 12 clicks????

i think you linked the wrong play. That was an incomplete pass to a WR, the HB was kept in to block.

Looks to me like the HB fell down making a diving catch. Notice how his dot got smaller? That is usually an indication that the dot has gone to the ground. The PBP also mentions a diving catch.

While we could argue that a HB should never have to make a diving catch for a screen play -- and even if the throw was that bad we'd like for the HB to have enough intelligence to just let that pass go incomplete and avoid the yardage loss -- my opinion is that this is working as intended .

It's a Jumping catch, not a diving catch and I can't see the dot getting smaller myself. Just 12 clicks of nothing.

It's the same play. On the left side put your mouse over the HB. When the play runs it will show the player over the football so you can see what he does. When he makes the jumping catch (and falls down after) it takes him some time to get back up. Just as he stands up, he gets tackled.

So as fish said, it's just a case where he fell down catching the ball and it took him a while to get back up.

Look at the size of the ball v size of dot --- at least in flash (thanks alindyl) I can see the transition between the ball and the dot being 'bigger'. That is the dot going to the ground. (I can see it in the javascript replays as well)

this kind of stuff happens all the time...watch complete games and you'll see a ton of this
