I'm single speed right now. I mainly ride through city streets and such since I live downtown.
If I were going on longer rides and such, I'd definitely invest in a quality road bike though.

My commute is no more than a mile and a half if that? It's all up hill though, but street lights and such.

How steep is the hill O,o? Single speeds on hills can be a real bitch.

I have Seattle at 3-6 wins as well. I have the Rams at 4-7 wins. I think they are slightly better than Seattle. If you look at the starting the lineup, I think most people would agree.

Not that steep. It's downtown Portland. Just some effort to get up the hill quickly if I manage to hit every light.

Holy shit... this guy cycled from anchorage Alaska to the bottom of Argentina. He combined his cycling with climbs of the two largest peaks in South and North America. He purposely road the Andes, and Rockeys, instead of taking the pacific ocean route.

I heard that story a long time ago. Wow, the world is small.

rockies are way more fun than the pacific route. Can't speak for the andes
except in situations where that would lead to mass death.
I'm clearly smart and you apparently are not.
If personal harm were to come to you, it would mean nothing to me. I wouldn't lament you any more than the passing of a common termite or roach.

Ended up getting a Surly Long Haul Trucker. Bought it for 800 off of Craigslist, and it fits me. It is in new condition and it fits me. The bike is a little more than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't pass up the offer. Man is it the most amazing bike I've ever ridden... Super comfortable, and it almost feels like I feel less bumps/vibration than on my mountain bike. Climbing hills is laughably easy with it's low gearing.

you can spin that bike all the way to maine and it would never give you a problem as long as you lube the chain every 300 miles. fantastic choice

Is it stock or did it come with extra bits. Either way that's a real good price. Those bikes don't depricate in value.

(I demand pics)
