My hope is that everything I liked about this game would then be mildly relevant again.

Regional Pride
Tournaments
Rankings

How will there be Regional Pride when every network has a team in every Pro league? Networks were still in their infancy when WL was introduced... its was Gut and Merge back then. I just dont see how we can build regional pride when we cant even build team pride (something else I miss too).

What was different about tournaments back then?

I do miss the Rankings committee from back in the day. Unfortunately there is so little team pride/loyalty that I just dont think people would care. Again, this is something that Networks greatly detract from, imo.

I have team pride, my team isn't a farm team for anyone

As far as roster limits... that was several years ago... pretty sad that we didnt have one until after season 10. Only reason I though it was sooner, besides the obvious, is that the group I came here with started as one team... then was forced to break up after season 1 (forgot that they changed the way XP was earned)... only to reunite a few seasons later (forgot we lost some guys to lack of interest and there was a falling out with a few guys too)... just seemed like roster limits might have been the reason why but whatevs

Mentor was around longer than 1 season I am pretty sure. There was a reason guys kept a boatload of players on their roster and a lot of guys weren't even playing in games. I know because I would go to recruit these bastards and they would say sorry WSI and their 99 thousand players wants me even tho I am not going to play with them.

Looks like it first started being abused in S9 by a few teams like LVG and obviously didnt go widespread til season 10. Looking at WSI I can admit they were probably abusing it too in S9. I am unable to find anything that would suggest that mentor was abused before S9. So that is only one season while they were on top that they abused mentor.

Tournaments were our best judge of ranking teams. And they were fun because you got to spread yourself out to other regional competition. The Pro World Tournament was load of fun to run. Once WL entered the picture we quit it because it had no point other than to be a bunch of worthless busy work.

The network guys like DS might not take pride in a region but spreading themselves out into 8 different regions and winning them would probably be a more fun goal than trying to get 8 teams in the playoffs and face themselves 2-3 times in a regular season.

It is tough to think about regional pride at the moment tho when regions are meaningless.
I provide an offense that spreads the legs of the defense and delivers the coconuts in a variety of ways.

How many of the agents that have players on your team or help your team in any way would say your team is their favorite and are giving you most, if not all, of their dots/time?

There were lots of teams like this back in the day before networks took over.

idk about their number one favorite, but yeah i'd say most of the agents on my team would say that my team is one of their favorite teams. Of course I can't speak for someone like Marcello, but he has been very loyal to my team and he posts often and even offers his own players when we need to fill a need (like we need to replace an OT and a WR and he offered up his dots)

But this is the thing that I keep trying to say to DPride when he throws out the "how many WL trophies have you won"

I keep my friends together, we build dots together. I'd say of the 10-12 agents on my team, at least 5 or 6 I would consider friends.

So basically you are saying it is more fun to debate who might be the best than to actually play meaningful games to decide it (considering good teams exclude themselves from the tournies they never really decided who was best)? I can respect that but not necessarily feel the same way.

I still love this game. It's just that most people have become way too serious about it. I don't think GLB took the fun factor away. I think the userbase actually did that.

It went from focusing on winning your league to "win WL or nothing else matters". It went from watching your dot's notable plays in replays to becoming obsessed with the actual sim mechanics. We no longer compare our dots stats but rather their ELs and Player Value.

Its worse than that. I still love to watch my individual dots, but for a small vocal minority of the playerbase, it is all spreadsheets, EL, and WL rings. They forget that from Rookie to WL, you're playing all the players at your age, so every championship or good season is as good as in any other league. I can't imagine being a WL team, having to maintain a big feederbase organization and trying to win with new dots in 3 year cycles. No tradition, no heros. A year of waiting til it matters. That would suck.

Me, I like taking a whole team from Rookie as far as it will go. Haven't made WL yet or won a Pro championship. But with a +.750 winning percentage, I feel a great deal of accomplishment.

Its sorta like baseball before and after free agency. Yeah, free agency made thing interesting and exciting. But then it settled sown into "who are we rooting for this year, who's playing CF again?"

I have to admit the possibility (although I've thought about it a lot) that my thinking might be colored by winning a spot in the WL for a team and then getting that same QB dumped for someone with a better EL, but no track record who ulltimately did jackshit in the WL. Have to admit, at the time, that stung alot. Wish I'd had the foresight (or money) to not retire him, but keep him racking up stats by dropping down to a Regional Pro League with 3 years of plateau left and being on the HoF list at 188 at the time. I have no doubt he'd be in the top 10 now. But I am satisfied with my HoF representation.

Ubass's and my WR received purple hearts for their WL championship heroism.
