Actually, I'll just short the initial purchase and set a hedge against the risk of stock rising - and then call up Jamie and Ben and get an infusion of "free money" and use it to divest into hard commodiites that I'll never posses and swaps and options of other sectors to off the downgrades there.... uh, my head is spinning as my money is either making money or losing wildy - damn the London whale, the derivatives are unfolding...

Sounds like you need a bailout from the feds. Hold a fund raiser for one of your senators and you'll be ok.
Bort would need his, and that's cool. I'd want to make sure that I had plenty of capital for a number of necessary changes to drive more functionality, better and smoother presentation, better visibility.
The game is not monetized like it should be. It is interesting, actually, that this game runs from user fees and not ads which is the reverse of most online games. There are tons of games that are ad based and sometimes can and can't access the user fees. In other words, the future of GLB would be to move from an old styled MMORG to a mainstream Facebook-type game, but retaining the basic fee structure. I think it would work, attract a ton more people, and be attractive to potential partners.
Write me Bort or Catch, and we can talk! Seriously.

I believe that if they did change to an ad-based revenue system, they should reduce user fees. Compared to other big MMOs, GLB is way, way more expensive, and the justification is that this is a game that has no ad income and garners new users solely through referrals. With that justification being gone, it really shouldn't cost $10-15 to just start up 1 boosting/CEQ player for their first season.
I believe that maintaining, or even increasing, the level of income through the use of ads, as well as reducing user costs, could spawn a boom for GLB by allowing Bort to get his fill and then some, and allow access to the game to some of the poorer folk, also resulting in additional income.
I have been waiting 4 years for this to happen. C'mon Bert, let's kick this game into high gear bro. I love this game and want to see it prosper rather than merely exist.
That's possible and probably smart. I think you could greatly expand the number of users that way.
But let's face it, as much as I like the game and put too much money and time into it, technologically (not saying back end but the front end) it is pretty neanderthal. There are a lot of things I'd do to reorient resources. The core game is fine even if the sim is screwed up from time to time. I'd mostly leave the back end guys alone to do their thing but get going on the front end and overall brand strategy, which is not usually a strength of coders and programmers (no offense meant at all).
If Bort sends me a PM, I'd sign a non-disclosure and talk with him and some folks. I think that Bort and Catch and their posse should all be retained and given upside participation, no question. Respect to them for creating a pretty good game that has enjoyed some longevity. Frankly I'd see them as essential.
But the future is this: if you aren't attracting a million(s) active users on iPads and Android, it's kind of like driving your car for three years with the "service needed" light lit up. The day will come ....
Don't get me wrong ... GLB has a really good substantive product going on. The value right now is on the cash flow stream mainly, projected out and brought to present value. I would factor in the additional investment needed and required return on that (likewise brought to present value), adjust for risk, etc to get to a deal. Because the risk would be, frankly, very high in whether an expansion and makeover would work, the required return would be outsized (i.e. way higher than 40%).
Warrior General Games would be what I'd sink my money into. Several Sports MMOs, (football, baseball, hockey, MMA) with one flex account to spend on all sites. I'd consider buying in if it had open stock. Not rich, so I'd be a stockholder with no pull. But I would be a squeaky wheel concerning sponsors and advertising.
I've read around the forums where new users have stated they came here to wait for the baseball sim. I wonder if Bort coming out with something else will hurt his cause.
