Strength DL

A run stuffer end is a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line. He is big, strong, and hard to move. However, he is slow and lumbering, making the pass rush more difficult for him. He will have difficulty reaching the QB in time to bring him down, so he must try to rely on intimidation.

Speed DL

A pass rusher end is a smaller defensive lineman. He is fast and agile, and is able to use his agility to get past slower blockers. He tends to rack up lots of sacks and hurries, making passing difficult. However, he tends to be a liability versus the run game, due to his lack of size and strength.

Combo DL

A combo defensive lineman is a competent run stuffer and pass rusher, but he will have a difficult time being a master of either. He is an excellent choice when defending a varied offense, because he can readily adapt to different roles.
