Ultimate Playoffs FAQ: Presented by Tim Harper
*I came up with some questions that I see posted quite a bit on the boards and figured I would give you guys all the answers you are seeking. I covered mostly everything that will come up, but if I missed anything let me know and I will add it!*

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-How many teams make the playoffs?-
8 teams from each conference of their respective league will make the playoffs.

-How long do the playoffs last?-
Playoffs last 8 days long. Single elimination format and a day off between playoff games. Champions from each conference will then meet for the league championship.

-Teams that make the championship, do they promote to a higher league after playoffs are over?-
Yes, top two teams from each conference championship will be promoted to a higher league.

-Teams that finish last in standings get demoted right?-
Bottom two teams from each conference will be demoted at the end of the season. They will soon be replaced from conference champions from the league below them.

-Are their XP gains during the playoffs?-
No. XP gains are turned off to keep the richer from getting richer. Wouldn't be fair to the teams watching from the outside.

-Are salaries paid during playoffs?-
Yes. Salaries will continued to be paid during the playoffs. Yearly salaries on based on 40 days, so do the math!

-Do teams gain money for home games during playoffs?-
Yes. Teams are awarded money for home playoff games like regular season games. That includes ticket sales and concessions.

-When is the last day of boosting?-
Last day of boosting is the night before playoffs at midnight(MST). Once playoffs begin, boosting is finished for the season.

-Are trades allowed during playoffs?-
All transactions will be halted before the playoffs being. Like boosting, will be shut off at midnight(MST) the day before.

-When is the latest I can upgrade my stadium?-
You can upgrade them throughout the playoffs. Once the playoffs finish, upgrading will be shut off for team movement.

-How will training work during playoffs?-
If I remember correctly, training is still available during playoffs.

-Are XP turned off just for games, or for training, too?-
XP is turned of just for games. The daily 100 XP gains at day turn are still in place.

-Can you gain skill by training during the playoffs (whether you are in or not)?-
Like I believe training is still on during playoffs. I will have to double check that one later.

-I see that certain leagues have less or more games played (I guess due to them being created later?). Will all playoffs happen at the same time (ie, even though maybe 8 games have played, the top teams will still play off at this point), or do we have offset leagues with different playoff and therefore boost/xp cut offs?-
All of the leagues will end at the same time and have playoffs at the same time. They will just have a shortened regular season, everything is the same for them.

-What are the tiebreakers for playoff seeding?-
Win/Loss is considered first, then head to head, then points scored is third.

-Besides money what is the point of the play-offs if we dont get any xp?-
Bragging rights, pride, competition, winning a ring and being crowned the best. What more is there but to know your the best of the best?

-When will Champions League Start? After this season? or after Season 2?-
Nothing is finalized as for the championships league as of yet. When I hear anything final I will let you guys know. I am thinking if it does get implemented it will be after this season. But I will talk to DD and Bort and see what is up.

-Is the League Championship game on a neutral site or is it a home game for the team with the higher seeding?-
It is at the teams site with the better record.

-Free agent players cannot sign during the playoffs either, correct?-
All transactions player wise are frozen, that would include signing of free agents.

-Can players be created or retired?-
Creation and retiring is still available I believe.

-Can unspent skill points be spent during the playoffs?-
Yes. Wouldn't make sense to level up on the daily points and not being able to use them.

-Will players still get their daily XP allotment?-
Yes.

-Will players be able to train to gain incrementally in skills.-
Yes.

-Can players individual tactics be changed?-
Yes.

-Can ticket prices be changed for games?-
Yes.

-Can concessions prices be changed for games?-
Yes.

-Can contracts be renegotiated?-
I want to say yes, but not exactly sure. I think you can though.

-Can team tactics be changed?-
Of course.

-Can the depth chart be changed?-
Yep, be silly if you couldn't.

-Would we be correct in assuming that the higher seed is always the home team? (getting the concessions and ticket revenue)-
Yes you would be correct in assuming that.

-Will the top seed in the entire league be home all four playoff games? If so can that team increase stadium seating during the playoffs?-
Yes the top seed will be home in all four games, that is if they make it that far. Also I can't remember if stadium seat increases are available or not, I will have to look that up.

-Will the Demand for tickets go up (ie price) during the playoffs as we all can expect they would? Or am I only going to draw 32 fans to the game if I go overboard (30% markup?)...-
Demand is a tricky issue that I don't quite have my mind wrapped around yet. Tickets seem to sell well despite how horrible your season is going. Figuring out a good price is fun though, so I won't give out any answers to that.

Nice stuff, Tim. I took the liberty of bolding your answers and spacing them a little, so it'll be more legible for some users. (Hope that was ok.)

Totally forgot we had bolding now. I haven't had it here for so long, I don't remember to use it anymore.

No, I edited it.

I took out his giant quote in his post and plopped it up top. Now that I knew we could add coding to the text now, I added italics to the bolding he did.

Tim, i was wondering, will tickets be able to be sold at much higher prices during the playoffs or will the prices be consistent with the regular season?

So, home teams during the playoffs get ticket and concession revenue, but playoff teams don't get XP. That doesn't make sense, as during the playoffs not only would you get revenue, but you would be benefiting from extra practices as well. I could see not wanting to allow people to level up during the playoffs, but they should be able to accumulate the points to use in future seasons. It's yet another reason to perform well enough to make the playoffs....there are perks!

You can't use the excuse the rich get richer on XP and then not use it on the revenue stream, as an owner that gets an extra $500-800K per game in the playoffs will be able to add another section to his stadium per each home playoff game. And that will bring in more revenue the following seasons and put that owner in an advantage over other owners in being able to offer higher contracts to recruit better talent as the game proceeds.

There should definitely be some form of revenue sharing for the playoff teams. At least reward playoff teams that don't have home games with 500k for TV revenue or something. Also, superbowl teams should split the games revenue like it is done in real life.

To me it looks like they want to reward you for making the playoffs with some extra $ if you are good enough to host.
They don't do XP because that is just too big of a reward.
I like the way they have it set up.

When you say the top two will be promoted to champs league. Is that 2 teams from each pro league or 2 teams from each conference, so 4 teams from each league?

each pro league.

So that means there would only be 14 teams, you think they would want 16, so maybe they will take 2 extra from us pro. This is just me completely guessing but 16 is just a more used number in nfl and all the conferences have 16 teams atm.
