Think this would be a good idea, or should everyone just figure out what works best for themselves?

Of course there are going to be variables. Low level teams might need more players due to low stamina. Pro league teams go with fewer players because they have more stamina (and are powergamers. )

This idea is inspired by posts like 'My owner just signed 3 more QBs and now I'm at the bottom of the depth chart, how do I get more playing time?' Maybe a little owner education would help?

3 OTs, 3 Guards, 2 Centers, 2 TE, 1 QB, 2 RB, 4 WR, 2 FB.

3 DT, 3 DE, 4-5 LB, 4-5 CB, 2 SS, 2 FS.

That's just what I'd probably personally go with, assuming they have enough stamina to backup.

I'd add 2 FB's and put the #2 guy in at the 3rd TE spot for goaline situations.
4 WRs would be handy too...
I'd like having 4 DTs and 4 DEs myself, they use up a lot of energy

2RB, if your owner signs 3 RBs (and I was one of them) I'd ask to leave straight away.

An extra (floating) O-liner to play #3 in every O-line spot, possibly an extra DE and DT for most games, and of course 4WRs which you left out

Well here are my thoughts. The idea is to get everyone decent playing time (say at least 30 plays) yet have enough backups to keep everyone rested and performing well.

Instead of repeating this a bunch of times, I'll just talk about injuries here. In the future when injuries are implemented it's probably going to change things. Like you'll want 2 QBs, etc.

QB: Currently you really only need 1. Similar to the NFL, the starting QB doesn't get that tired. It's hard to get a backup QB enough playing time to level at a decent rate.

HB: 1 or 2, depending on how you have your depth chart set up and how often you run.

FB: 1 or 2. Some teams have a FB as backup HB, and some have a backup TE as a backup FB.

TE: 2 or 3. Formations like goal line use 3 TEs. You could just put a FB there though.

WR: 4 or 5. There is a 5 WR formation, so you'll want the depth chart to have 5 people in it. Can use a TE or even a CB if you don't want 5 WRs.

OL: Basically there are 3 ways of doing the OL. You could have a backup for each position (so 2 C, 4 G, 4 OT). You could go with 2 C, 3 G, 3 OT. If they have good stamina you could go with 1 C, 2 G, 2 OT, and 1 backup for all positions.

DL: Similar to the OL. Could have 4 DT and 4 DE, or 3 DT and 3 DE, or 2 DT and 2 DE then 1 backup for all positions.

LB: Same idea, kind of depends on your stamina. If playing the 4-3 you could go with 6 LBs (starter and backup at each position), 5 or 4.

CB: 5 is the most common. Could go with 4 and have a SS/FS at the 5th spot.

SS/FS: Could go with 2 for each, or just have 1 backup for both positions.

K/P: Only need one of each of these.

Well I thought it might be useful to someone. Maybe not.

C - 1 starter, 1 backup (special teams as well)
G - 2 starters, 1 backup (special teams as well)
T - 2 starters, 1 backup (special teams as well)
TE - 1 starter, 2 bacups (special teams as well)
FB - 1 starter, 1 backup maybe for special teams
RB - 1 starter, 1 backup (if three, 3rd plays special teams)
WRs - 2 starters, 3 backups, rotate the squad play the backups on special teams
QB - 1 starter for now. When injuries are implimented, you'll need a servicable backup.

DL - 2 starters, 1 backup (special teams as well)
DE - 2 starters, 1 backup (special teams as well)
OLB - 2 starters, 1 backup #2 on depth chart here and #3 depth for MLB (special teams as well)
MLB - 1 starter, 1 backup #2 on depth chart here and #3 depth for both OLBs (special teams as well)
CB - 2 starters, 3 backups, rotate the squad play the backups on special teams
FS - 1 starters, 1 backup (special teams as well)
SS - 1 starter, 1 backup (special teams as well)

41 player squad, which is one over the minimum.

I like having an extra safety that is a pure ST demon (pref SS). So, I would slightly change it:

QB: 1 (if you have 2, play the backup on KOS as a courtesy for leveling)
RB: 2
FB: 2 (nice if one can run/catch and be the 3rd TE (or RB if facing a creampuff))
WR: 4
TE: 2
OC: 2
OG/OT: 3 each
DE/DT: 3 each
LB: 5 (one pure ST guy here as well)
CB: 4 (4th potentially return)
SS: 2
FS: 2
Special teams: 2 guys - 1 WR and 1 SS

Let's remember that this may all change when injuries are implemented.

Not sure how common they are, but if you only have one backup and your starter goes down, you are going to have to make that backup play quite a bit and keep using your injured player...keeping him from recovering fully for a while.

No one knows how injuries will quite work yet though.

I can't believe this thread died so quickly. Anyone have any thoughts on kick return teams. The team I play for currently has 9 OL. The person consider 9th on the DC for OL is getting the 3rd most snaps from scrimmage out of 9 OL. On the Depth chart this player is #3 at all 5 Ol positions. At first I thought that was the problem, but then I realized he wasn't on special teams and 5 other lineman were. So these 5 guys run down the field on the punt return then they sit on the first 2 offensive plays because we sub at 99.

Who should be starting on the kick return team.

Also does anyone know about the long snapper position? Can you just put a really fast player there? I know NFL teams use a TE usually. Our team uses the C because we don't have anyone in the position. THis also wastes the Cs stamina, and is pointless because he is slow. My owner is always open to suggestions, but I can't quite convince him on these two points. Does anyone have any info that might help me make it clearer? Or just some opinions would help too.

I keep hearing that having 2 QB's is not a good idea...check out our 2 QB's for the Thunders, they both are among the leaders in both yardage and TD's.
