just used the new test offensive AI thing, and the matched input/output shows that it should've been 100% a field goal. But in the game my team punted the ball. Bug yay or nay?

i have the field goal distance blank (auto)

It might be right on the edge of FG range. The tester thing doesn't take into account the K being tired or having low morale, etc; just his raw stats.

Maybe I should make the tester calculate the FG range a little short of what it really is, so you can get a better feel?

Bort - is there any way to make this easier.

Just have the user input the longest FG they are willing to kick, and from that yardage (or footage) they will always kick, regardless of the kicker's morale, energy, etc.

So if LOS + 17 yards (or 51 feet) = that distance or less the kicker launches one, if its longer, the AI goes to the next input/output for that situation.

Maybe we are overthinking/overcomplicating this feature

That's what the FG distance box is for. If you don't fill it in, though, you're asking the K to make a judgement based on his stats.

Very well put!

BTW, when can we expect a Defensive Tester?

I understand that, but as has been posted many times, noone seems to know what number we should be using....line of scrimmage or actual field goal distance. It has been posted both ways, both quoting you, so I think the populus is just looking for clarification.

Whatever you tell us we'll use -- if you say its FG distance, great. If you say its line or scrimmage, fine. Just let us know which one and it *should* end these questions.

This is the option now on the Tactics page, so it seems range including the 17 yards. So, if on the 35 yard line you would input 52 in the box, I'm pretty sure that's what it means.
--------------------------------------
Max Field Goal Range, from the place hold to the uprights, LOS + 17 yds (leave blank for "auto"):

Probably later tonight or tomorrow. Basically the same code so it should be easy.

that makes sense, i didn't take into consideration that he might have been tired, he did a few kickoffs beforehand. dont know if this is asking to much but what does the auto take as "not going to make it"? is a percent chance?

I may have a similar situation but am trying to understand the purpose for "special circumstance"

My input is as follows:

Time Remaining: Less than 30 seconds
Ball Spot: Opponent 40 and Opponent 5
Down: Between 1 and 4
Yards to 1st: Between 0 and 255
Score Difference: -83886 and 99999
Special Circumstance: Near Field Goal Range (5 Yards)

Output is to kick FG

This is the play

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=98557&pbp_id=1288410

I do not have my kickers range specified.

When I run this play against the tester it matches the input

am I to assume that my kickers range at that point in time is less than a 46 yarder (34 yard line + 17 = 51 - 5 yards specified as near FG range = 46)

If I set it to near FG range (10 yards) would I have tried the kick?

Thanks for any insight

It's a hard cutoff, actually. It generally won't kick if there is a 0% chance of making it unless you've manually set the range.

I would imagine it would have tried it, but probably not made it. The purpose of the special situation stuff (10 yards, 5 yards to FG) is really to allow you to do things like run when you're close to FG range and try to get into range.

Thanks Bort..."probably not" is enough to try it with 22 seconds left at that spot, I'll have to think about this one.

Not sure if I want to set a FG range of 51 yards as I only really want to try it in special circumstances.
