This was the first season I was truly disappointed in the game. It seems like too many changes are making their way into the game without proper testing, then a fix gets put in that swings the pendulum way too far the opposite direction. Or changes get hidden inside some obscure thread. I wonder if after all these months if the game just hasnt overwhelmed Bort's ability to do it all alone.

I don't know the circumstances, nobody but Bort does, and if he doesn't have time to type it into the announcement thing I don't see how he can have the time to type the exact same thing into a PM for somebody else to post. The arguments "It doesn't take long" and "He can just tell someone what to say" don't go together; if he has time to tell somebody what to say he'd have time to just do it himself, and if he doesn't have time to do it himself then he doesn't have time to tell somebody else what to say, and he's the only one who can accurately say whatever he's supposed to say (who else but Bort would you trust commenting on sim code?).

The sad fact is that someone will likely promote a similar product with a more organized support structure/etc around it and take the playerbase. If GLB doesn't lay some basic foundation sooner than later, it will die. SW Galaxies, EQ2, etc.

I know for a fact that its in teh works...., and I know the site's url. But its a while from being up and running. And at teh moment the owner doesnt want it out there

I've heard of another one, but I'm not sure how reliable my source is on the topic. Supposedly will be ready after the super bowl. if its true, then it will be more personality driven where the games are just one aspect.

Maybe thats the problem the game has grown past the abilities of one person. Most software developers use more than one person to write all their code for a reason.

My Bort's stalker thread was about doing PR. And Bort is aware of a lack of PR since season 1 (and my PMs ).

But Bort do what he can/wants

It obviously has outgrown the efficiency level of one guy, but by the time Bort finds some dude to hire to help him, teaches said dude the extent of the code needed to let him have reign over it without Bort's express supervision as well as training him in the subtle nuances needed for him to actually make updates to the game, Bort could already have coded, tested & uploaded that particular update and be well on his way in bug testing/verifying/fixing.

It needs doing, but people need to STFU for a while first.
Every time he updates they bitch about "moving target, how do we compete when you keep changing stuff", every time he doesn't update they bitch about "omg the game's so stagnant bort's sitting on a pile of money doing nothing but laughing at us", if he tells you what he updates you whine and moan and groan and nitpick about what was said, what was implemented, when it was implemented or where it was said, if he says nothing you whine and moan and groan and nitpick about hidden targets and stealth changes that may not even exist, and throughout the process you've got morons posting about how training is bugged because they were on none and got no XP, the AI's bugged and didn't do what they said because they turned off "follow my AI exactly", and that doesn't even include any of the constant "My guy had a bad game unnerf us bort 300yds and 8 TDs is an accurate football simulation when it's on my guy's stat sheet DUH" complaining.

I've played enough games and perused enough game forums to know better. You know it and I know it: never going to happen. How many PC game forums have you seen where people complain about not having a new patch withing 12 hours of the game's release, etc?

People will voice their concerns, and no matter how much we dislike it, we have to sort through the chaff and find the pearls of wisdom. It can be damn hard sometimes though.

Also, hazyone's recent news site has given me some ideas related to helping keep the community informed and involved. He had some good ideas.

Well, there is a lot of work to be done on this game to make it what it could be...and competitors are on their way. The more slowly the upgrades come, the more likely people are going to check out. If you want to grow your business, your number one initiative should be to get the necessary human capital. Oldskool, you strike me as one of those theory X managers.

I just know how much of a pain in the ass it is to sit down to a wall of somebody else's code and have to fish through it to figure out why things are working a certain way

Of course people will do, and that also help the game to improve. I mean when people have open minded discussion about what can be improved, what they would like to see .. That doesn't include people whinning every 2 minutes tho

Perhaps following your own advice could also prove prudent. I guess mybe you feel if someone is dissatisfied they should not say anything. Nothing I said was an insult in any way and not meant to be. But it is the attitude of people such as yourself that everyone should just pay their money and have nothing to say about it that tends to get to me. I usually like what you have to say but honestly that is a pretty shitty way to treat people. I don't have a problem with people agreeing or disagreeing with admins and mods I have a problem with the whole "STFU", "Nuff Said", etc etc attitude.
