This is a new thread to compile all of the ideas and comments on the original Pro Bowl thread. This is a comprehensive suggestion to include the nomination of an all-pro team from each conference of each league every season, the inclusion of a Pro Bowl game, and how GLB could go about achieving this. The reason I am posting this is because every day, someone suggests this in the suggestions forum and I thought I'd start one thread that people can look at before they suggest this again. I've compiled as many ideas/thoughts I could find from the previous threads and put them into one consolidated and well-formulated idea. Questions, comments, discussion, improvement, etc. is encouraged. Please, no more Pro Bowl threads!

To avoid confusion, every time I mention “week”, it means every set of games (or two days) in GLB.

I think that if there is enough community support behind this idea, and a solid plan can be formulated, that it would bring this idea closer to fruition.

What is the point of a Pro Bowl?
Gives players and owners something to strive for. Actually adds another dimension to strategy at the end of the season and also gives player-only GLB players something else to look at. Also, puts many of the West vs. East, Elephant vs. Leopard (or whatever they are called in Africa) conference rivalries to rest at the end of every season.

THE VOTING PROCESS

When and how do players get nominated?
Pro bowl voting doesn’t begin until after the eighth game of the regular season (midway point through the season). At which point, eight games worth of votes are divvied out immediately based upon players’ stats from the first eight games combined. From this point forward, when the games for a given league are played every other day, pro bowl votes for that “week” are given to players based on their performance in that week.

What are votes based on?
Votes are based on stats. While people have expressed concern about this, the fact of the matter is that everyone gets to play the cupcakes and the slow-builders.

Who votes and how do they vote?
Votes are just CPU controlled and are given based on stats. However, fans don’t necessarily vote for the best stats. Though players with better stats would have a better chance at collecting a fan’s vote. For example, HB #1 rushes for 112 yards and 2 TD’s on 17 carries. HB #2 rushes for 57 yards and 1 TD on 10 carries. So for each fan’s vote, HB# 1 might have a 67% chance of getting the vote, and HB #2 might have a 33% chance of getting the vote (note that there would be around 30 HB’s to play in any given “week”, so every one of them would have a chance at collecting votes, but some would have a much greater chance).

Okay, so how many votes are there?
Doesn’t matter the number, but for purposes of simplicity and approximating reality, you could assign a total of 100,000 votes each “week” at every position. This would mean a total of 1.6 million fan votes for each position (Tom Brady received just over 1,000,000 votes last season). As stated above, one lump sum of 800,000 votes would be given after week 8. Then after the simulation of the games every week, it deals out another 100,000 votes based on player performance in that week.

How would I be able to tell how many votes I have?
Another tab at the top of the conference homepage would say “Pro Bowl Voting” (next to “League Playoffs, etc.). When you entered this page, it would be similar to the stats pages, but instead of Passing, Rushing, Defense, etc. it would have QB, HB, FB, etc. Three columns would display the player’s name, team, and number of votes.

What about player/coach voting? I mean, that’s two thirds of the voting process in American Football.
Maybe in the future, but getting the basic idea off of the ground would be the first priority.

How many players from each position are nominated?
The standard Pro Bowl roster of the NFL could be used. 3 QB, 4 HB, 2 FB, 3 TE, 6 WR, 2 C, 4 OG, 4 OT, 4 DE, 4 DT, 6 LB, 4 CB, 2 FS, 2 SS, 1 K, 1 P, 1 KR, 1 PR.

But my team sucks! I’ll never get any pro bowl players!
Oh cry me a river…but seriously, at least one player from each team in the league would have a participant in the pro bowl, so don’t despair!

WTF I’mz so pissed ‘cause this guy has hiz FB playing HB and so he ottomatikally gets pro bowl FB!
Grammar intended. A player’s votes are based on the position he gets the stats at. A player playing out of position would gather votes only at that position. So in this example, the FB would be getting votes at HB, not FB.

But my contract is up mid-season and I want to change leagues. How does that work?
New league = new voting. You lose all your previous votes. Fans of a league don’t care if you were Randy Moss in your previous league, they care what you are in their league. This will also encourage team continuity and day 40 contracts. However, if a player changes teams but remains in the same league, he wouldn’t lose his votes.

PRO BOWL GAME

So we have Pro Bowl teams, but when do they play?
Pro Bowl for all leagues would be conducted on day 39 and 40 (depending on league) after Championship games are finished. You could also technically have a Pro Bowl tournament where winners keep playing each other in day 41-offseason, but not necessary.

How does the depth chart and tactics work for the Pro Bowl?
Depth chart and tactics are CPU controlled, just like the D-Leagues. That way it splits playing time between all players and nobody gets snuffed out of playing time. It was suggested that the conference winning owners/GMs get to control this (like the NFL), but someone could just promote their own players and snub others, so it doesn’t really seem like a good idea.

What do the winners get?
Maybe all teams from the winning conference get a cash bonus. Nothing significant, but something like $100,000. This would also close the gap oh so slightly for the lower-end teams compared to the top teams.

PRO BOWL PLAYERS

What do I get for being a Pro Bowl player?
Well, for starters, you’d certainly receive a trophy in your awards. This is really up to Bort, but the player could get the opportunity for special equipment, training points, skill points, bonus tokens, or anything else. However, the most logical and fair solution seems to be a small cash reward, such as $1000xlevel. You could also receive a fame bonus (if/when fame appears).

As an owner, why do I care if I have Pro Bowl players?
Pro Bowl players probably shouldn’t get your team any extra money, but they could increase fan support. For example, a team with 3 pro bowl players would have their fan support increased by 3 in each category. There needs to be at least some sort of incentive here for owners, so that they remain obligated to players on their team. If adding fan support isn’t enough, then maybe something else.

FURTURE CONSIDERATIONS
-Having fans vote based on a player’s fame. Players who are more famous are more likely to gather votes than those who aren’t.
-Player and coach voting.
-End of year Pro Bowl team tournament (i.e. cross-league).

-1

1) Creates more down time for the rest of the GLB community. And we all know the complaints that come now about downtime.
2) Stat based votes are way easily skewed and person based votes are too easily placed in the buddy catagory.

If it can be done without adding 1 second more of off season time or off time anywhere I'd be for it. But don't inconvenience the masses for the few.
