I haven't seen that jumping for the pick play on semi aggressive. However, I have seen it a few times on my corner that plays aggressive coverage.

Well, I've done some investigating and here's what the dealio is so far:

There is no code that says "stay in this box" when in zone. The box just defines the receivers the defender will look at to defend, and where to head back to if releasing a receiver.

When the ball is thrown, the defender must make a vision check to figure out who it's going to. When he passes it, he essentially changes from zone coverage to man coverage on that receiver, which allows him to make a play on the ball.

What I believe was happening: The vision check was coming up every tick, even when he previously passed the check. So, if the defender passes his check on one tick and then fails on the next, he'll bobble back and forth from zone to man coverage, making him do funny things like looking like he's butting up against a "wall" if the receiver's outside his zone.

What I'm testing right now is making the vision check permanent. I.E. once he passes it, he stays locked on in man on the receiver, and can then go where ever he wants. I want to run some more test games with zone coverage to make sure there aren't any other ill effects from it, but I haven't seen anything funky yet.

(BTW, I've got an update on the flats zone too; seems to work at the moment, to have the zones be more of a "don't leave this area until the ball is thrown" zone instead of chasing if there's nobody else nearby)

Thanks for the info Bort. It's good to know that zone might actually become the defensive set that it should be (if based on real football).

Bort, does this successful check that puts the defender in man coverage on the intended receiver turn off Zone Specialist?

That would be great. I'd be pleased to know that passing a vision check caused my FS to lose his +15% speed, agility, and vision bonus.

I would think that the Zone Specialist should INCREASE the chance of passing that initial vision check when the defender is in zone coverage.

AFTER passing the initial vision check a DB with zone specialist should still keep his speed and agility boosts imo.

Thoughts on this Bort? I really think you're onto a good fix, but to sum my thoughts on the Zone Specialist

1) It should increase the chances of passing the vision check you discussed

2) After passing the vision check the DB should continue to have the speed and agility bonus since technically they were still in Zone Coverage at the snap of the ball.

Otherwise, Zone Specialist was basically rendered useless.

Thanks Bort. I really think this will make zone a viable option this season.

Nice to know what was happening and that it can be fixed soon.

So why am I more disheartened now than before?

Well, seems to be working in tests so far. Nothing crazy out of the ordinary, etc, but I figured as much, so I'll be getting it loaded up tonight.

As for the VA question: zone specialist remains in effect until the ball is caught. Even though the player may be playing like he's in man, he's still technically in zone coverage, so the bonuses stick around. And yes, the vision bonus for zone spec would help see the ball coming.

i love u bort.

Nd can u give any type of hint how much vis. is needed to flawlessly pass the vis. checks so NO bobbling occurs?
