Generally speaking, the text doesn't lie. Additionally, more in an SA means it is active more often AND gives a better bonus.

With no evidence regarding THIS SA, but my knowledge of SAs in general, I'd say Absorb Pain

- has a chance to fire in every pass blocking situation
- if it fires, every energy/morale loss/gain calculation in the play gets modified

I'm not sure if the "against stronger defenders" part. I doubt it makes a check "if opp_str > own_str" sort of thing, but who knows maybe....

Fact of the matter is, get a C with line general and natural leader, and this SA becomes worthless.


OR

increases the likelihood of your guards and tackles to be fresher and have higher morale than the DL

Just save 5 players the SP of getting Absorb Pain and get one really good center with 10ish Line Gen and Natural Leader and it's a moot point.

It lessens the morale/stamina hit when losing blocking rolls, every time you lose the roll. "Stronger defenders" refers to guys who are probably beating you more often.

wtf? No... Why would it do that? There is no blocking roll when you get monster hit. What it would do, though, is lower your morale/stamina hit when your 8 strength WR gets reversed pancaked on every running play. But really I think that's the most useful application of this SA, under the assumption that Line Gen is working as intended.

1 gives a boost right before the snap

the other prevents the loss in the first place

combined can keep the whole OL fresher with higher morale

not saying it should top the list of SA's, but later on putting 4 points in with 6 SP or good AE is worth it IMO

I totally see value with this SA. The problem is that I tend to see more value in the other SAs. So a C with high line gen and natural leader sounds really good to me.

For Guards it's worthless since it's at the end of the tree and costs 2 SP to begin with... And that's without even mentioning that Guards probably shouldn't even be investing in SAs other than Get Low and Hands to begin with. And for ROTs it's not worth going that far down the tree to get. The only reason I think anybody should invest any heavy points in it is if they're a LOT looking to get protector up... and even then, 5 is as high as I'd ever want absorb pain on a LOT.

Lower strength WRs easily seem like the people who'd get the most use out of this SA imo.

Agreed. Especially when you consider that most teams have Motivational Speaker at this point as well.

OK, so first it says "without flinching or losing morale" then "uses less stamina to block defenders"

Sounds great!

However, it goes on to say:

"Reduces morale and stamina loss when pass blocking stronger defenders."

Bolding for emphasis. So which is it? Does it work all the time? Or only when pass blocking a player who is stronger?






that's why it's at the bottom of my list for G's - they're rarely if ever up against stronger defenders if built right

Would be nice if more SA's were cleared up by Bort on how they worked.

Bort , please please PLEASE - wipe the descriptions clean on all the SA"s and start over with them. Tell us what they really do so that you are spared from having to answer these types of threads.

At a minimum, the description should state:



A) whether it works on offense or defense or ST or all 3.

B) what it does specifically. Does it boost strength, does it increase your avoid fake%.

C) What the requirements are for it to fire if any. Do you have to be within the box, do you have to rush the passer, etc.

D) Be correct. It's come out that Breakthru for example doesnt require double teams to activate, Dump Pass is actually +pass quality for short passes, doesn't make it more likely to be a completion, etc.

E) Be consistent. Using the word "stronger" shouldn't mean "actually more strength" one time like in the David and Goliath VA, and "just overall better" another time (like it is you say for Absorb Pain).


I am not alone in saying i've pretty much stayed away from this SA from day 1, because I interpreted "Stronger" to mean just that. That it only works against defenders that had more strength than my OL. Not that it works every time i lose a blocking roll.
