Bort and Co would be smart to avoid this. If they come up with this and then someone runs something through the builder...and then tries to build the player based on that..but screws it up....many GLB "idiots" will blame GLB. We see this stuff all the time. So why officially support something that can bite them in the ass...when unofficial ways exist that don't cause them problems.

Another thing....after this the next thing some will be suggesting is taking the builder and having it actually build the player. And when that doesn't happen some will be upset...not all but some. And again why should GLB support something that could do that?

Many many many many games have unofficial tools to help you. This is one of them. And should stay that way.

Counterpoints to Arguments and Clarifications

The player builder does not DESIGN the dot, you do.

It simulates YOU designing your dot.

It will allow MORE experimentation since people can see 2+ year building results without spending 80 bucks.

There will be more build diversity because people will be less afraid to go out on a limb when they can experiment with the builder.

Higher quality players being made means better competition (which is something everyone would want)

The Virtual Player Builder is already a script, so why not level the playing field with a GLB endorsed/supported version?

Read my part about what people would want AFTER GLB releases an official script.

Because the unofficial way does cause problems. Not all users have access to the builder. Some do have access but don't know anything about it. I don't have exact numbers but even if a quarter of the users don't know about the builder or have access to use it and this were implemented it would be an addition to overall competitiveness.

Also, to debunk the first portion of your argument that you seem to think so credible. There are many ways around this. First, you create a notice on the top of the section concerning the topic. The builder is meant as a tool, and with so many variables coming into play during training and so many other things it is impossible to be exact. Therefore, simply state that GLB does not in any way guarantee results, rather this is just a tool.

A notice? Like forum rules? Those are followed so much. You mean like player build FAQs? I mean people don't ask the same question a million times on the forum...OR bitch about something when they could have read it somewhere. I mean damn..this is GLB...no one ever jumps off the deep end over stupid things.

There is a reason games like this, WoW, etc...do not release official tools like this. Think of a game the size of WoW and the money is brings in...yet they don't. Again..from a company standpoint there are reasons to avoid these types of things.

Dude... most people don't even see the rules as they don't go searching for them specifically and they are not exactly right in your face. It is easy to make something noticeable on a single web page if you know anything at all about web design. Further if someone wants to bitch about it, it is easy to point back at it. Besides, forum <> actual part of the game.

A lot of people seem to think that just because there will be a builder there will be a bunch of cookie-cutter dots.

Good.

To some that says "stagnation," playing against the same type of players all the time. But we have that now. Except the "same type of players" happens mostly to be "poorly built dots." So all the sheep that would otherwise follow good dot making with a tool like a player builder readily available, are currently just making half-assed dots.

But I, and others, say it's good for competition.

What's better? As it is now with all the half-assed dots? Or the potential for mainly decently built dots (even if they were mostly the same)?

Sounds to me like the thing people are worried about is that the bar will be raised, that they won't be able to feast on poorly built competition as often.

Let Bort and co. decide if it affects their business. Let us say that it would make playing this game more challenging and more fun.

I usually don't post in these parts but I totally agree with this idea for one MAJOR reason... the fact it will lead to better DOTs being built. EVERY season I see DOTs that don't get contract offers until there's nothing left to pick from in the gene pool. It's like those kids on the playgorunds that were either seriously overweight, skinny little bone bags, or coke-bottle glasses that nobody would pick until everyone else got grabbed up. Even then they usually sat on the bench or got stuck way out in the outfield... or wherever they could be shuffled off into obscurity. Like it or not, new players come into GLB all the time and being able to have something that helps them get up to speed quicker is nothing but uber-intelligent thinking.
#1, it helps established team owners by creating a better DOT pool
#2, it REDUCES (not eliminates) the need for endless posts about player building.
#3, happy people usually become repeat customers... they even tell friends who also get involved... and being able to build "competitive/ usefull players" from the start means happier people.

uhh, acually there are more "no" votes on this then for 8 of the last 9 most recent suggestions. I dont think its happening and it shouldnt. for the reasons already said. It will just let lazy people be even more lazy and add a huge amount of even more similiar cookie cutter builds to the game thus dumbing down the game even further. Horrible idea.

TBH - lazy is not the correct term, since the people who use it will actually be doing more work than those who don't, since you actually have to spend time and effort running multiple scenarios through the builder to figure out which one you want to go with.

you mean a huge amount of good builds that work in the sim? OMG we don't want competition do we? Takes more time to plan out a build with a player builder then it does to click skill pts as you get them.
