When I first started playing GLB, I tried to read as much as possible but it was very difficult because some of the help files and all of the forum discussion used slang and abbreviations like "Dots" and "STOPS". I'd read it and had no idea what any of it meant. So, I figured I would start a little glossary of the various terms and abbreviations you see in GLB. I'm sure I'll miss some, but if anyone has more - feel free to add them and I'll update this first post every so often.

This isn't here to explain how to "do" anything. It's just to give you an idea of what the common abbreviations mean so you have an idea of what to search for in the wiki to learn more.

Dots: I originally thought this was some sort of specific player (like STOPs) but really, it's just a term for any player. It comes from the replay screen where all the players are represented by dots on the screen. You'll also hear terms like Dot-Ball (GLB Football) and various other variations.

STOPs: Special Teams Only Players: These can be returners, but typically if someone is looking for STOPs they are looking for people built for blocking and/or tackling on special teams. These builds are different because, for example, a STOP Cornerback doesn't need any skills in the pass defense area, so they can focus all their building to stopping runbacks.

SA: Special Abilities - these are the abilities that you can spend skill points on or improve with custom and/or advanced equipment. They are the ones that everyone will scream at you for spending points on during the first several seasons of play.

VA: Veteran Ability. You start to gain those at level 25 and before then they are all but invisible in your player build. This one drove me nuts for a while since I kept looking at my players and found NOTHING that had this abbreviation.

VXP: Veteran Experience - these are the points you get every night once you hit level 25. Each 1000 VXP gives you one VA point (see above).

CEQ (or CE):
Custom Equipment - this is the piece of equipment that you can purchase for flex points.

AEQ (or AE): Advanced Equipment - this is upgraded regular equipment that you can spend Bonus Tokens on.

BT: Bonus Tokens - the tokens you receive when you do your training.

SP: Skill Points: These are basically the points you get when you level up, plus each time you train enough to gain a point on your attributes, it counts as an SP. Add up the SPs you got from training plus the ones you got from leveling up and that number makes up your Player Value.

EL (or EffLvl): Effective Level - This is the number that appears after your actual level on your player page. It is, basically, a comparison of your SP (see above) compared to every other player in your position at your level. If your EL is higher than your level, you have more SP than the average player.

FAs: Free Agents - players not on a team.

Quad Training: When you spend your bonus tokens to unlock multi attribute training, the idea is to unlock three of them so that every 4 days you can train those three, plus one more attribute. 4 Attributes - Quad. Thus "Quad Training".

Caps:
In order to maximize your player build so that he can be awesome when he gets old, you use a technique called "Cap Building" - there's tons of reading about this around. Each attribute has a "cap" where, once you reach that level, it costs more SPs to raise it up one point. (Cap values: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4804219&page=1#44350752 - thanks tautology!)

Slow Building: Some people will sacrifice player quality during younger seasons and stockpile SPs while they train the various attributes up while the percentages are high, and then apply the points later as they start to hit the various caps.

Major/Minor Attributes (ATs): When you look at your player's skill points, page you'll see that some have gold stars (Major Attributes) and blue stars (Minor Attributes). These vary per position and archetype within each position. The major ones are most important, the minor ones are the next most important. (thanks Lexden11)

Primary Attribute (or Primary AT): This is the main attribute that you train first and get it as high as possible. In most positions, this is speed, but there are some exceptions to this. (thanks Lexden11)

AT: Sometimes used as shorthand for "Archetype" - the type secondary specialty your player might choose. (eg, a TE might be a Receiver AT, Dual Threat AT, or Blocker AT, etc). (thanks Lexden11)

These are the ones that come to mind right now. Again - if anyone else has others - jot 'em down in a reply and I'll pop back to this thread every now and then and update this. Hopefully this will help a few new players understand all the lingo flying around in the forums.

Added a link to tautology's post from the caps section. Less wordy than putting it up on the original post. Thanks!

lol Okay. I'm not sure I know a few of them - then again I've got the flu today so I'll probably kick myself in the ass as soon as you spell it all out. NGTH = Not Going To Happen, AI=The play calling logic (artificial intelligence), DAI=Defensive AI, DPC=?Defensive Play <something> lol Yep. Brain farts for the rest. No need to get too fancy - I'm sure I'll know what's up when you spell them out. Or, likely, I'll check this thread again when I feel better tomorrow and I'll know them all already. lol
