can someone please explain tags to me on D tactics?

tags are used for bringing up special inputs in the DAI for when certain offensive dots are on the field.
no uses in casual as far as I know.

I believe that they don't as gameplanning is very restricted to make casual more.....well casual.
Basically what the tags are for is to assist the defensive AI in package selections. If certain players are on the field for offense, the tags will bring out specified defensive players and packages that the DC has planned to make for better matchups.
For instance, say a team built a pocket passer QB and had two kickers. One kicker has all his points under speed, agility, and carrying. If the offense elected to put that kicker in at QB, the defense might be very fooled. The tag will list him as whatever the DC wants him listed as, in this case a speed player or rusher. That helps the defense know to put faster players out on the field and will play a more run focused defense while that kicker is in at QB.
The reference is a poor one, but helps to get the point across. That is my understanding of it and if I am wrong, I'm sure this thread will get blown up by vets who will punk me and give you a better answer.

TO be more specific, here are the details on the presets available in Casual and how to tag. In general (and in my opinion) the tagged defense is pretty weak unless you are playing a team with rushing QB's.
The only defensive preset that uses "Tags" is the "tagged" preset : http://goallineblitz.com/game/faq.pl?cat=Team%20Ownership#271

Power (pHB) = running back that typically only runs between the tackles.
Blocker (bFB or bTE) = back or TE that typically is only in to block, not run routes.
Receiver (rHB, rFB, or rTE) = back or TE that typically is only in to run routes, not block.
Rusher (rQB) = rushing QB.
Speedy (sHB) = running back that typically only runs outside the tackles and is not called on often to run routes.

And I can vouch for the Tagging working in Casual.............. it DOES.

It's the easiest way to deal with rushing QBs in casual. All it takes is a couple minutes to apply the preset and do your tags

say I only want to tag one player on the other team...do I tag the dot, set all my tactics, then set the preset to tagged?

Sounds like regular leagues. Just set up your AIs and then tag as needed.
the BIG difference in bold. I can tag a rushing QB casual team and set to "tagged" in under 5 minutes. I don't have time to create and update a full AI. No way that can be done (successfully) in regular.

yes, but if you are going to tag 1, you may as well tag as many as you can. In general, that defense sux, but the less dots you tag, the worse it is.
