Based on what Digital Daggers was saying in the main New Game thread, it sounds like Alpha for GLB 2.0 won't last very long, and then it'll go into Beta, presumably an open Beta.

We've also been told in the past by Bort and Catch (Bort rest his soul) that Flex bought in GLB will be fully transferable and spendable in whatever new game comes next.

Given those two factors, how the fuck can I justify telling all of my agents on the Palookas and the Paladins to keep spending Flex on boosting their current crop of dots? Any Flex that they spend now on GLB 1.0 will be that much less Flex that will be available to them for GLB 2.0.

I don't have the time or the money to spend on two games at once. I can either play GLB 1.0 or GLB 2.0, but not both. And since all of the time, energy, attention and excitement of both the staff and the user base will be focused on GLB 2.0, I would likely choose to jump to GLB 2.0 and abandon GLB 1.0 -- and thus abandon my current teams here.

Might as well just tell all of my boys right now that we're packin' it up. Might as well sell both teams now to re-coup the Flex cost of owning the teams for this season, and I might as well stop boosting my current batch of players. And since my players will be unboosted players who no longer have a team, I might as well retire them right now as well.

..............

What am I missing here?

Seriously, what am I missing here? As cynical as I can be about Bort's business acumen at times, it's hard for me to believe that even he could be this stupid as to have not thought any of this shit all the way through.

Seriously.

Your first football rpg is slowly losing steam, start a new game, hit a new demographic. You aren't going to get new fucking customers with the same fucking thing, you will just lose existing customers who end up playing two completely dead games, instead of one partially dead one that we have now. (http://goallineblitz.com/game/league.pl?league_id=215 , http://goallineblitz.com/game/league.pl?league_id=114 , http://goallineblitz.com/game/league.pl?league_id=171 , http://goallineblitz.com/game/league.pl?league_id=102 .....who remembers when these were full? Okay...less not full? Looks legit.)

Make basketball and target whoever likes that shit. Make soccer and hit the WORLDDDDD.

Or just make football and completely destroy everything you've worked on for half a decade. smrt.

Do you have Point Break?

How about Bad Boys 2?

.....

Seriously, though, the more I think about this transition, the more pissed off I get.

I actually just posted in both of my team forums to warn everyone NOT to boost their dots until we know more from the big announcement on Wednesday, because there's a chance my teams won't exist anymore on Thursday. And having to post that sucks. It fucking sucks. But I can't expect my people to keep spending Flex on GLB 1.0 if it will take away from their Flex budget for GLB 2.0. That's not fair to them.

Maybe Bort and Pallow will pull something out of their ass and make players and teams fully transferable from GLB 1.0 to GLB 2.0, in which case it would make sense to continue boosting and developing our dots.

If they don't have something like that in the announcement, though... well...

Good luck bro. I'm thinking the dude is banking on the "They'll come and they'll pay!!!!" philosophy that died in like season 8.

It's now a "add a play and hope they'll stay....OH DO YOU WANNA PLAY THE REVAMPED VERSION NOW?!"

Eh, they could have some sort of formula that "translates" the old attributes into the new ones. It wouldn't be perfect, but neither was the formula for transforming players from the original building system to the Accelerated system. Doesn't have to be perfect. Just has to be good enough to make it worth doing.

I really hope they'll have something like that in the Announcement, because otherwise, Bort and Pallow are about to simultaneously kill off two games at once, one of them before it's even started.

That might actually be worse.

If this turns out to be more Quick Hit Clone instead of GLB 2.0, they'll still risk dividing up their userbase between two games, which will leave GLB 1.0 weaker than it already is.

Sounds like you don't have a handle on your agents, hoss. I smell weakness in your ranks.

yeah, thanks Novus
I'm already getting feelers from your agents
and I don't have any room.
maybe we should just wait and see what happens.

seriously, given GLB's past performance does anyone really think they'll have anything remotely marketable by this time next year?
