I have not read through this thread at all.

Too big.

The most important issue is an OPTIONAL filter for items appropriate for your player's position. Some players are being regularly used out of position and some agents seem to be looking for the capability to do a specific thing that's not on their position's list.

As for how to make the gear reasonable for an advanced player . . ..

How about letting us "trade" standard gear in on Advanced Gear upgrades? This would require that the Advanced Gear identify itself as upgrade level in some visible fashion (Level 1 piece, level 8 piece, Level 16 Piece, etc), but, we could then trade in a Level 16 piece (or greater) or standard gear to upgrade the advanced equipment from Level 1 to Level 8. We always have the ability to trade in our prior invested money in order to get the advanced gear ALMOST up to where it should be for our current capability set, but we would have to spend the Bonus Tokens to purchase the upgrade to the current most powerful version we could have.

just make the new EQ use new slots instead of replacing what players already have.

I like this idea, it's simple and it would work.

Ok I have an idea for how to setup the Advanced Equipment Upgrades: (assuming that upgrades will continue to mean +1 Attrib AND +1 Ability)

1) The Cash portion of upgrading should be the equiv of what it would cost to make the same Attribute upgrade on regular Equipment.

2) The Bonus token portion of the upgrading cost should be equiv to the BT cost of a number of SPs that would be needed to get the same Ability.

Examples:

Upgrading a +1 Speed item into a +2 speed Item costs $2500. Upgrading level 1 Ability to level 2 costs 1 FP. Therefore, upgrading a +1 Attribute +1 Ability to +2/+2 would cost $2,500 and 4 Bonus Tokens.

If one wanted to upgrade a +2/+2 item, the cost would be $12,500 and 8 FPs.
If one wanted to upgrade a +3/+3, the cost would be $50k and 12 FPs.

Atleast that is the pattern, though because the abilities could be considered "advanced" - they should have a base FP value of 2. This would change the costs to: +$2,500/8 BTs; +$12,500/12 BTs; and +$50,000/16 BTs. This also maxes out the BTs one could earn in a season, which seems the right number for max upgrade of an item.

Using this math - Upgrading a set of items, each from +1/+1 to +4/+4, would cost a total of 144 BTs, out of a total of 160 BTs that a Player is able to earn throughout a 10 season career. If one wanted to try and increase this to exactly 160 - just increase the first 2 upgrades by 1 BT, and the 3rd upgrade by 2 BTs.

I don't care how you shake it this advanced equipment idea is shit in it's current form. I just wasted 2 days training on normal so I could shop and rolled up crap crap crap that would cost me out the ass to get to the level of current basic equipment at which time it would then be obsolete again. I shopped for a few players today and won't do it again. If my basic equipment gets me nowhere then I guess I'll see you in nowhere!!!!!!!!!!

edit for spelling

I'm sure that the Shopping option will be better when the temp boosts are in - then atleast you know there will be something you can purchase even if the equip sux.

Apologies is already mentioned but iut seems to me the second biggest gripe is that everyone is pulling equipment for players that are pretty useless to them, +1 First Step for a Kicker is not going to be much use etc etc

I'd like to see a "team shop" system. It would work thusly:

* I buy the advanced equipment my teammate's OL needs but is in my options.
* I sell it to MY team store with an obligatory Owner/GM authorisation step. Cap the number of pieces you can sell per season and/or link it to spending Tokens to limit abuse in addition to the Owner/GM auth step. Prices are fixed by the equip cost to avoid inflation.
* My teammate goes into the store and buys the Adv Equipment for his OL
* I wait patiently until I either pull decent Safety equiptment or a teammate sells some to the shop that I can buy.

Would something like this appeal to players to solve the "useless" equipment question?

yeah there definitely needs to be some kind of filter so you only get equipment your player can use.

What about position specific stores, but also have a general equipment store which has the EXTRA EXTRA special equipment, but since it is random you may need to spend several shopping tokens to find special equipment. ie Risk and reward system.

Another idea, have a piece of equipment for every equipment type (head, hands, body and feet) in the store at a time.

Position specific or even just Defense vs. Offense specific would help a lot. Or, store "owner" that would actually check what position player comes into store.

Every type might help, but more would help that the Store would not refresh equipment that all have same SA/percentage-boost, i.e. make store more random (or does random number generator suck this badly?)

Maybe even: five slots in store, pick three to refresh? Selective shopping?

I don't know if this has been suggested or not but what if Advanced equipment just gave a bonus SA and not attribute bonuses. Then you upgrade the Atributes as normal but you have to use bonus tokens to upgrade SA.

This is actually the best idea I've heard yet. It solves the Vet problem, and makes it definitely worth wile.

It seems like the best idea would be to save up the bonus tokens first, and THEN go shopping.

they shouldn't be able to easily get 4 supped up advance equipment pieces though, they're advanced and shouldn't be as standard on players as basic equipment

This. Under the current system, you could upgrade 1-2 pieces per season. The cost is high enough that the more I think about it, the more I think it should stay as is with the current upgrade structure.

People complain that allowing the SA to upgrade very 8 levels is too much - the fact is there is a pretty big opportunity cost, esp. when you have to go shopping over and over again to find the right piece of equipment.

For those that don't think they can find anything useful, you're either unlucky or you don't see the big picture down the road.

i semi get what your saying, and i agree there should be a way to add/upgrade/combine the normal/old equipment with the new/advanced equipment. i wouldnt mind seeing a way to where you can combine the old equipment with the new. like for my guys for exp., my MLB has fully upgraded equipment, +4 for all 4 peices, well i was lookin at the advanced equipment and saw one that would give me a SA boost to defense general and +2 for strength, bad ass equip right? well i couldnt really choose between a +4 strength and a +2 strength and +1 DG, now if there was a way to combine them together like the better the advanced equipment the more bonus tokens and money it would cost, now there would have to be a cap on how much you could combine because some one would take advantage of it and keep combining +1 strengths for low costs, but for somethin like that would not only help the lower levels try to things for equip, but actually give the vets a chance to use the new equip as well. thoughts?

now i know this will need some major polishing, and it may have been discussed already but?

*Facepalm*

Everyone - including Bort - makes this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to complicated.

You don't need any sort of system to merge/craft items. You don't need to balance old with new. You don't need to worry about overpowered equipment. You shouldn't need to read 10 FAQs just to figure out how to buy and upgrade equipment. For something Bort supposedly put a lot of thought into, it sure is failing considerably.

There wouldn't be so many threads on "fixing" the new equipment and GLBers whining and complaining if it weren't so damned confusing, and if more thought had been put into it. Many people have figured out better ideas within minutes of the equipment announcement than what Bort came up with in 40 days.

Keep things simple, yet innovative. Plan ahead. This could've been easy Bort, but you made it hard.
