**WELCOME TO SEASON 5 LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. Season has been underway for quite some time. If your just starting now, best thing to do is go into a D-league team and start getting some games under your belt.
There were some changes made to the game, for that info look below for the State of the Game Address by Bort. Good Luck to everyone and have fun.

This is a guide I made to help out new players just starting the game. If any question about the details just ask someone, most people are willing to help out. (If your going to make a thread about the issue be sure its in the correct forum)

For simple questions, please post them in this thread and someone will get to you ASAP. A lot of helpful people check this thread often (when it says new posts) and most likely will be able to answer your question. This makes the Newbie forum less clogged with same the question over and over. Thank you.

This FAQ is also VERY helpful:

**By Norsemanvike: Added Smiley codes

**Added info on marketplace - New add-on to put your free agent on the market and get your player signed to a human team. (Button is on top Bar)

**Added couple helpful hints on player building at the bottom, also added a chart of attribute ranges at the bottom. This is my opinion, but I think it is a general consensus around GLB.

NEWBIE GUIDE

XP=Experience points
Skills=Physical attributes and football attributes
FP=Flex points
SA=Special abilities
SP=Skill points

1. Starting out

-----a) Make a name for your player and pick the position you want him to play at. To do this go to the flex point tab in the upper bar and click on create player. My recommendation is to re-roll until you get stats that you won’t be using as low as possible, for example, a DT won't be throwing or kicking/punting the ball, so try and get those as low as you can. You can always raise your useful skills later on. Also notice what player is in high demand, you are more likely get a offer from a team if you make a player that is in demand.

-----b) You will get 15 skill points right away for you to put into skills for your player.
Here is a guide that describes what each does (http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=125 )
and here is guide to help you create a player (http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=6371 ).
Remember this is YOUR guy and you can make it however you want, so you don't have to make the player exactly (or even close) to what the guide suggests. MY recommendation is that you raise your stamina some to get as many plays as possible, which is what increases your experience points (XP) so you level up..

-----c) If you are just starting out and have already made a player, the best thing for you to do is to get on a D-league team (Developmental League). These are CPU controlled and are just meant to get your guy started. While your in the D-leagues getting XP, its best to start looking for a Team to join. Post a ad on the Marketplace (located up top) so people know your looking for a team. Add some comments and you'll have a better chance at getting recruited.

2. How you Play

-----a) This is a American football mmorpg game. You start by making a player and picking what position you want him to play. You get skill points to raise your attributes or special abilities (SAs) as you level up. You level up by playing in games and nightly training. You do not actual get to play in the games, they are simulated at a set time and you get to see the results of the game in play by play (pbp) replays.
-----b) Heres a example:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=78239&mode=pbp
There is also a boxscore:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=78239
A play in the game (long pass for a TD):
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=12479616

The results and each players results are based on a number of different things. Your players vs your opponents skills/player tactics/special abilities/energy/morale, finally the in game tactics for the team that set by the owners and/or general managers of a team.
More info: http://goallineblitz.com/faq.html
If love watching and following football this is the game for you.

3. Flex Points

-----a) Flex points can be used to get a number of things. Creating a new player; buying custom equipment for a player; buying a team (need 1000 FP to get on a waiting list); buying your own private forum; and for boosting.
----- b) Flex points (or FP) are gained in two ways.
----------a) One is by buying them. Go to the ‘Flex Points’ tab on the top bar, then on the right side of the screen click on 'buy now'. They use paypal.
----------b) The other one is by referral. This means that you got someone to create a account and make a player. You MUST have that person use your referral link, this can be found on the right side when you click on the ‘Flex Points’ tab on the top bar, or go to ‘My Account’ on your home page. The person must then create a player and sign in a second time.
-----c) Every new player account starts out with 400 FP.

4. Experience/Leveling

-----a) As your guy plays the game, he gets experience points (XP) which increases his level. To get to the next level you need to get 1000 XP.
-----b) There are two ways to get XP:
----------a) First is getting plays in a game. It doesn’t matter what kind of stats your player gets, only thing that matters is how many plays he is on the field. This is the primary method of getting XP. A player gets taken out of the game to rest if his game energy is too low, so raising stamina will get you more plays.
----------b) The second is training. Each player gets to train daily (more on that below), so each day you will get some XP. You get the same amount of XP no matter if you train on intense/normal/relaxed.

-----c) Skill points(SP): Each level you get 5 skill points to spend on either skills or special abilities. Once a skill reaches 48 it will start costing 2 skill points to raise it once. Once you hit 60 it will cost 3 skill points to raise it once.
-----d) As your level increases, a player will get less experience per game and for training.
Example: Level 1 player will 100 XP for training and 500 XP for 40 plays while a level 8 will get 70 XP for training and 300 XP for 40 plays.

5. Training

-----a) Training helps a player increase his attributes, they can not help increase your SAs. The higher the skill, the less you get for training it.
Example: If a player has 40 speed and 10 strength, then training the speed skill will increase by 0.15 while training the strength skill will increase by 0.50.

-----b) There are three settings to chose from. Intense, normal and relaxed. The higher the intensity the more money you it costs, but you get more training (higher attribute increase).
Relaxed: Minimum cost, +15 energy gained each day
Normal: Costs 7.5x more then relaxed, +9 energy gained each day
Intense: Costs a 2.6x more then normal, +3 energy gained each day

-----c) Keep in mind that you should save money for equipment upgrades at lvl 8/16. Also you want high energy going into a game because that means you will get to be on the field more often, which increases your XP. You get the same amount of nightly XP no matter if you train on intense/normal/relaxed.
-----d) You can adjust training by going to your player's page.
-----e) To get the new values for a different training intensity, you must choose the intensity you want and click on 'update'

6. Boosting

-----a) Boosting is when you spend FP (Flex Points) to automatically raise your players level by one. Each boost costs the same amount of FP as the initial amount it costs to create the player. You can only boost 3 times a season and it doesn't roll over. So if you don't boost in a season then those boosts are gone forever.
-----b) To boost, click on the 'Flex Points' button on the top bar. Then on the left side of the screen click on 'Boost', pick your player from the drop down menu bar that appears, click on 'Select'. Then the next screen choose how many levels you want to boost the player by (maximum 3 a season) and click on 'Boost'. Go to your players page and spend the SP you just got.
-----c) The last day to boost for the season is the usually the last day of the offseason. Its a good idea to boost on day 40 since you don't earn any XP for training during the offseason (just in case). After day 40 it is the offseason, you can still boost, but its not always clear on the number of days it lasts for.

7. Special Abilities (SA)

-----a) Read the description to see what each one does. There are two separate trees, if you want to be a specialist then raise only one tree, sometimes it is better to raise abilities in both, its up to you. Think about how your making your player when you put points into them.
Example: For a HB, it wouldn’t make sense to increase the power thru SA if you strength is at 10. You will get better results from it if your strength was 30+.
-----b) The first 4 abilities costs 1 SP to raise initially, then after every 2 points the costs increases by 1 SP. The last ability on each tree cost 2 SP to raise initially and after every 2 points the costs increase by 1 SP.
Example: I invest 2 SP into the first ability, after that it will costs me 2 SP to raise it once. I invest 4 SP to raise the ability from 2 to 4. It will now cost me 3 SP to raise it once.
-----c) It costs 30 SP to raise the first four SA to 10 and it cost 40 SP to raise the last SA to 10. (the maximum is 10, with custom equipment you can get it to 11, not sure if it helps the SA more or not, I would ASSUME that it does help at 11)
-----d) A player can only have twice the number in SA as the previous SA on the tree. Meaning, if you want to have the second SA on a tree at 8 you must have the first one at 4.

8. Energy

-----a) There are two different kinds of energy. One is game energy, or breath, and the other is maximum energy, which is the bar that you see next to your player.
-----b) Here is a good FAQ on energy
http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=197617

9. Morale

-----a) Morale is the second bar that you see on your player. This always goes up and down during a game, the same concept as energy. If you make a bad play (interception/missed tackle), your in game morale goes down and you might keep making bad plays. However if you make a awesome play (force a fumble/big gain) then it goes up.
-----b) To have bad plays effect your player less, you should increase your confidence skill.
-----c) The bar you see is the maximum morale you can have. It changes depending on the outcome of the game (lose it goes down, win it goes up). In game moral swings back and forth (for individual plays), much like energy does.
-----d) IT WILL GO BACK TO 100 AT THE START OF THE SEASON.

10. GLB Money

-----a) This is the in game money. It is whats used by GLB teams to play their players for the effort they put it in.
-----b) Currently the ONLY thing you can spend money on is equipment and to cover the cost of training. That is it. The developers plan on making more things to buy later on.
-----c) Every player starts with $2500. That is enough to buy a set of level 1 equipment.

11. Equipment

-----a) Equipment is used to increase your attributes or SAs. Basically it makes your player better.
-----b) Two different kinds of equipment.
----------a) The first one is regular equipment that you can buy from GLB money. You start out with enough to buy one set of equipment. To buy it go to your players page and click on 'Equipment' at the top, after it loads click on 'Buy New'. Here you can choose which piece of equipment you want (body, feet, head, hands) and the color/style you want your player to wear. Each piece of equipment you will be able to give a +1 boost to whatever skill you want. You can wear a maximum of 4 pieces at a time, but can buy as many as you want. After you have chosen which piece and style of equipment you want click on 'Choose this color', pick you +1 skill and click on 'Purchase'. Don't forget to equip it after you buy it.
--------------------a) Every 8 levels (1,8,16,24,32,40,etc.) you will be able to upgrade the equipment you previously bought to give you another +1 boost to whatever skill you want, it doesn't have to be the same skill. The first set cost 2000(500 a piece) for a full set, when you hit level 8 it will costs 10000 (2500 a piece) to upgrade the set. When you hit level 16 it will cost 50,000 (12500 a piece) to upgrade the set.
----------b)The second kind of equipment a player can get is called custom equipment. This cost flex points to get. You can create a custom piece in the equipment section of your players page or buy clicking on ‘Flex Points’ tab on the top bar. You must give the equipment a name and can upload a picture (uploading a picture is optionally, naming it is mandatory). You are allowed a maximum of +6 skill points into whatever skill you want, each skill point costs 100 FP. At level 8 you are able to choose a SA tree and get +1 to all SA in that tree, this costs 300 FP and you can only do this once.
-----c) Click on the equipment tab on top of your player's page to get to the equipment section.
-----d)After level 8 you don’t get any more options as far as custom equipment goes.
-----e) The reason one or more of your skills are blue is because it is boosted by a piece of equipment.
-----f) It is NOT one or the other, you can get both the +6 to skills and the +1 to a SA tree (once you hit level 8 of course)
-----g) You can upgrade custom equipment at any time of your players career, you don't have to buy everything at once (get 3 SP for 300 flex at level 4, then at level 20 you can buy the other 3 SP).
-----h) Once you buy equipment you can not change it (custom and regular) so think wisely before clicking on the buy button.

12. Player Tactics

-----a) This is pretty much self-explanatory. Whatever option you pick for your player, think about how the player is built, some owners will post how they want the tactics done so it fits better with the team tactics.
-----b) Playing Intensity
Hard: 10% bonus to skills
Normal: 0% bonus to skills
Relaxed: -10% bonus to skills (****THIS IS NEGATIVE 10%****)
However your ‘in game’ energy will drain faster the harder the intensity.

13. Forum

Italics - [ i ] italicized text [ /i ]
Underline - [ u ] underlined text [ /u ]

14. Getting your player on a Human Owned Team or in the Developmental Leagues (CPU owned)

Human team:

NEW
-----a) MARKETPLACE
The game has gotten a very cool addition. Its called the "Marketplace", its a tab on the top bar of your screen. This will let you place a ad for your free agent so that others can see that your looking for a team and try to sign you.
Pretty basic to use.
-Click on marketplace tab on the top bar
-Click on "My FAs" tab
-Fill out the forms to get a ad placed for your player

-----b) Another good way is to post in the ‘Player Looking for Team’ Forum:
-Make a new thread here: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread_list.pl?forum_id=6
-Be sure to make it in the appropriate forum.
-To make it easier on owners/GMs it is better to copy and paste your skills to your thread. Be sure to include your SA as well.
-Write a sentence or two explaining where you are going with you player (what kind of build you are making).
-Write down any requirements you have for a team or owner. (contracts, money, activity level, GM spot, playing time(PT), league region, league level, etc.)

-----c) Or you can look around in this forum for a team that needs your player and PM the person who posted: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread_list.pl?forum_id=10

-----d) ONLY way off a human team is for them to release you (There is a trade/release deadline the 24th day of the season so must do it before that) or have them trade you to another team. You can NOT opt out of a contract, so think before you sign.

PS: It is very annoying to a owner when they give a fat signing bonus/salary, take a hit to team chemistry and then you ask to be traded right after because you got a better offer or want to be on a friends team. Do not expect them to be happy about this. MOST owners will be reasonable and be willing to trade for cash, some might not. Don't be mean and spam the team forum or mass PM them, they can screw your player more then you can screw them. Be professional.
Good luck to you and have fun

-----e)
Contract offers from D-leagues

----------a) D-leagues are Development teams which are CPU controlled and are there to help out new players build their player up to a reasonable level where he will be able to get a spot on a human controlled team. All energy levels and tactics are CPU controlled. They designed it so you will not want to stay in it.
----------b) When you start out you will get three offers right away from D-league teams. Even though it doesn't say you have a offer in the 'contracts offers' on your players page, you will have three offers, just click on it. New offers are received every day and the old ones are retracted. The D-leagues might be so full in one position (like a QB) that you might not get a offer, it happens.
----------c) Take a look at each team before you join it and look at the depth chart for your position. One team might have 4 people playing your position and another might only have 1 or 2. Plays are split almost evenly between players, so the less amount of players in your position the more plays you get, the more XP you get. BE SURE TO CHECK
----------d)You can still receive offers from human teams even though your in the D-leagues, it is the same as if your guy wasn't on a team at all.
----------e) Only way to get off a D-league is to go inactive for 5 days or join a human team and have them release you. Or if the contract with the team expires.

15. Rate my Player/Build Help

-----a) If you need help with your specific player (instead of a general question on a attribute/SA/etc.) please post here:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread_list.pl?forum_id=68
This way the other forums don't get clogged up with people asking for help on their specific player.
-----b) The best way to get help is to a)Be specific on what you want help with, the future plans of the player and the kind of player you are making b)Have a interesting thread title c)Be nice

16. Support/Bug Issues.

-----a) You have several avenues to query if you can't find the info you're looking for in the FAQs forum (should be your first and primary source of info).

-----b) For in-game tactical questions, complaints about other users' language or forum behavior, please contact a Moderator. There are currently about 10 of them, and they roam the forum and should be fairly easy to track down.

-----c) For all other requests, please contact Support (on the top tab). This will include Paypal/FP purchase problems and other more complex, personal related issues. This will put you in contact with an Administrator (ie someone who actually has power to get things done ). This road should be taken only if the FAQ guide and the Moderator could not aid you.

-----d) PLEASE realize that Support gets many messages every day and it may take a couple days for them to get back to you. If you feel like you found a bug that isn't unique to your situation, then post here: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread_list.pl?forum_id=3

17. Tips and Tricks:

******If anyone has a tip or trick just post and I will add them and give you credit.******

-----a) If you get a offer from a human team, it is wise to only sign on for a one year contract and make sure you like the team/owner. Because if you don’t then you can leave after that year. Contact others on the team and ask how the team/owner is to get a good idea what your getting into.
-----b) A owner can give anyone (even if your not on the team) access to the team forum, ask if you can take a peek and see what kind of atmosphere it is.
-----c) The higher your level, the more stamina you will need. As you gain levels actions/plays will take more energy, so don’t neglect it.
-----d) I like to train my skills to 16 or so before I invest SP into them. The reason being is that there is no point in raising a skill from 10 to 11 when you can just train for two days and get the same effect, while your higher skills will take 3 to 6 days to increase by one through training.
-----e) For the custom equipment SA boost, it is a good idea to have each of the SA at least two, that way the equipment is more efficent. It has a value of 11 SP instead of 6.
-----f) For boosting, a good strategy is to wait until the end of the season just before playoffs, because you will earn more xp during the season since you are a lower level. However, if you boost early in the season then you will have a 3 level advantage during the regular season over your opponents who are waiting until the end. Given the same amount of plays, the late boosters will probably be a higher level then a early booster during playoffs.
[Side note of boosting strategy] The extra XP you get from being lower level isn't going to help you much if you're sitting on the bench because someone higher level has taken over your spot. And while you're warming that bench up, you can watch your teammates earning WAY more XP then you getting actual plays **Credit goes to THawk**

18. Brief Opinionated Player Build Guide:
-----a) It is better to pick one or two attributes and get then to 48 ("soft cap" where it starts costing 2 SP to raise the attribute one) as quick as possible.
-It is better to put equipment into attributes that are at 48+ (once you reach it), because it costs two to raise it, but equipment still raises it +1 even though it costs two. So you get more bang for buck. (Equipment becomes worth twice the SP)
-----b) I would hold off on putting any points into Special Abilities until at least level 8 and focus on your attributes
-----c) Try to train your attributes as high as you can BEFORE putting any skill points in them (I use 20 as a general rule of thumb)

19. Attribute Range Chart coming soon.

That's a very debatable strategy. The extra XP you get from being lower level isn't going to help you much if you're sitting on the bench because someone higher level has taken over your spot. And while you're warming that bench up, you can watch your teammates earning WAY more XP then you getting actual plays.

Check with your team and decide on which strategy to go with. Make sure that your Team Owner is ok with you not boosting at the start of the season so that you don't end up riding the bench.

Other then that, another good Newbie guide. Great job!

good point THawk.....boosting early can get you more plays during the season and it will make your player look good if you are trying to get on a team. A lot of the pro league players boost later on, but if your reading this guide your probably not at that level

In regards to waiting to boost until the end of the season... I have 3 people who signed on by my referral who it looks like are doing that strategy... only problem is, no activity from them means no referral bonus for me, right?

not sure, but if you go click on home in the top bar, then at the top of the page right next to your picture click on 'My account/referrals'. At the bottom of the that page there is Referral History, this should tell you who signed up using your link. It tells you the amount of FP gained and the status of each referral. If it says processed under status you should've gotten FP for it.

Also if you magically get FP in your account then thats a good clue too
