Also stamina is a big part of this. If these sacks are coming later in the game it kind of makes sense. The team is probably passing more when they trail, which is giving an energy penalty to the OT. Added together with the morale penalty, this is probably enough to kill players with low confidence and stamina.

I'll go out on a limb and say it's not true that if a OT gives up a sack that he takes a morale hit. My reasoning is because Bort can't find a way to have an O-line player stat that tracks sacks allowed. That suggests to us that game mechanics are unable to pin a sack allowed on any particular player.

That being said, I think it's probable that the entire O-line takes a morale hit when a sack is allowed.

THat's what a lot of people think, but I don't see much evidence of it. Sacks occur in runs just as much as they dont, which means the morale hit, if any, isnt making a difference.

A) Bort's said that one failure on a team can effect the morale for everyone. He cited a fumble lowering the morale of the entire offense. A sack (especially on 3rd down, which, thanks to clutch, is coded somewhat differently) may be an event that lowers everyone's morale

B) To give up a sack, an OT usually failed a hold block roll. Odds are, they'll be failing it pretty often against a good OT. THe more often you fail a roll, the more your morale drops.

I'm not saying its all confidence, but more confidence definitely can't hurt.

Only a very small percentage of failed hold block rolls end up in sacks though. So I'm not buying that failed block rolls have a big impact.

I don't think they do either. A couple of my DL have gotten 10+ reverse pancakes a game for several seasons now and opponents never seem to get any worse late in games. But who knows, very likely just observer error on my part.

So if we rotate our O line each play does their moral refill like energy?

Depends on if you have motivational speaker and if your team keeps losing or winning. Big play like a TD? Whole team gets a morale boost. Big let down like an opponent TD? Whole team feels it.

Morale refills VERY slowly on its own; it's mostly based on the team doing stuff.

Bort, what happens to team morale when the HB trips on the 5yd line - when he was about to score TD? Is that a morale hit on the offense? Or defense for giving up a big gain? wtf.
