You don't even lose an extra level. You lose 500 XP max, while gaining 4000 VXP, assuming your player is level 22 and you boost him at the beginning of the season.

Probably not, but it makes boosting early a lot less harmful to your player than before.
This and you shouldn't really be concerned about your players XP vs. long term aspects. Losing a few levels now at level 25 wont hurt much, the idea is to hit beast status in the high 30's IMO.
I boosted Waddle up to level 25 and got 2 vet abilities. I felt getting some Vet Abl. now was a much better bennifit for my player

my SS will hit level 22 after the first game and am trying to figure this out as well

The one thing I'm wondering, that I haven't seen someone do yet...My guys are 22 right now, can boost to 25. Or I can wait like normal, and boost them to 28. Which gets me to 30 sooner, where I get more VP per day. Will that make up for it? 2 of my guys are still semi-slowbuilding, so I'd prefer to hold off with them (and not even spend VP for a while), so if I can make it up on the back end...

You'll get to 30 at the same time either way assuming you boosted early next season.

Good point. I forgot about leveling slowing down when I posted that.

This is simple, really.
As previous posters have said and I have confirmed a level 22 player making max XP loses about 400+ XP boosting early as opposed to boosting late. Further, the gain in VXP is about 4000, or 4 VSP. 400 XP is the equivalent of 2 SP.
So, I think most of us can agree that 4 VSP (or a 4% boost to any one attribute) > 2 SP. And the remember the VXP is permanent. A late booster will never again be able to catch an early booster in VXP all things otherwise equal. He may make up a little ground by being able to possibly get to 30, 35, or 40 slightly faster, but I doubt he'd ever make up 4000 VXP at a 25/day rate.
A lot of the math from everyone seems to be coming out close to the same numbers, here is something I posted on one of my teams.
pros:
Gain 4 va pts by day 32.
Boost at beginning of season we would be able to cap another attribute right off the batt or shortly afterwards.
Early boost would make us more competitive in the league.
Would be able to equip players with level 24 eq at start of season.
Cons:
Would give up about 400 game exp pts and a small amount of training % equaling out to about 2-2/12 sk pts.

This was actually what my preliminary findings are, using best guesstimates based on my own player exp history.
Half a level of exp or 4 VAs.

I like the math but one thing this may over look is the fact that VXP increases at level 30 which if you redo the math I think you would find that getting to level 30 faster will get more VXP. I have not taken the time to do this but it makes sense. If anybody wants to do the math I wuold like to read their findings.
