lol, I'm just me. But that guy's post looks about right.

I think you are pretty accurate with your assesment. But I don't think you take the 'bonuses' from SA's and VA's into account. Those bonuses do have a pretty noticeable impact on a player.

Player Example 1:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=311713
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=658461&pbp_id=592570

Player Example 2:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=440395
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=659208&pbp_id=1940071

Both players have over 100 speed.
It is obvious player 1 is faster than player 2.

You know what I found with SA's. First Step completely rocks for wide receivers. You start of almost 4 times as quickly as people without it. You don't have to be a 100 speed for it to work either. An 80 speed with with first step will smoke a defender, who is flat footed.

Pretty sure the first dot has 120 speed. And I'm pretty sure it works for him.

Thats not first step. That's 120 speed + Scat Back VA.

Funny thing is, on my HB I tried a couple of different things out after we were knocked out of the playoffs. This is no new theory, so I changed him from the current 115/77 speed/agility to 100/92, thinking he might look much quicker and more explosive. Lol, was I wrong, all of a sudden he was slow as molasses. Feel free to check the replays, here´s the game log: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player_game_log.pl?season=9&player_id=62866 Games 18 and 19 were with high agility, 20 was back to high speed.

Bottom line: much faster with speed way outstripping agility.

Of course it is. I was making a point to the OP that while some of his 'fluff' is right, he hasn't taken into account that there are some pretty significant bonuses that can be had when considering SA/VA's.

Scat Back is a good example. Look how fast your guy is running the same route as a guy who has 100+ speed and Scat Back. You have higher base speed, thus your bonus is greater. Thus your guy is faster. Which can easily be seen in the plays linked.

Nice post. I agree entirely. I think subconsciously i have been following this route/planning to follow for my new guys who replaced my season 2 players. Helpful to see a well thought out explanation however

Anyways, I think to a certain extent that the OP is correct. In today's sim, having a "rounded out" build will give you an edge. I mainly think though, thats cause a lot of season 1 and 2 players were initially built incorrectly. I think as the game ages, those who wait until their 7th or so season to "round out" will have the big advantage at the Pro level. Having a high primary strength, and building a dot around that primary focus will ultimately result in having better performance. The DT who takes his base agility to 80ish before doing anything else will have an advantage, long term, over the DT who only took it to 68. If you think about it, with the escalating cost of increasing a skill at higher levels, the longer you wait, the more bang you get for your buck.

The OPs statement is correct, but only to a certain point. By maximizing one to two main attributes you're not counting yourself out of having a balanced player for it's entire lifespan, you're just ensuring that once you do reach that point of balance you will have a better player. It just takes these players longer to mature, but when they do, they will be dominant players.

It's not about pouring in SP's as much as it is making the system work for you.

I agree for the most part, but there is a speed curve. If your ahead of it, you won't have a problem getting open. If you are behind it, even by 1 point, you will struggle. (It is actually more of a deadzone for speedsters who take speed high, but not high enough. People who aren't trying to beat people with speed, 90 speed guys, won't have a problem with this) If you are going to try and win by 1 attribute, it absolutely, positively needs to be on the bleeding edge of insanity for it to work. Perhaps there are diminishing returns, but if you have 4 extra points of speed diminished to the equivalent of 1 point of speed, that is still giving you a sizeable boost when you are on the cutting edge.

So wat you're saying is this:

Push it to the limit
Walk along the razor's edge
but don't look down, just keep your head
and you'll be finished

Welcome to the limit
(The limit)
Take it maybe one step more
The power game's still playing so
you better win it
