yeah i like it being random... just make the standard deviation less than 5%. so most players will still have out of the average height and weight

Yeah except everyone going for WR would obviously take tall etc.

How about a person can select to either emphasize height OR weight and the other is random, but both still have a randomness. For ex you could select to totally emphasize height, but if you do there's more of a chance you'll come out skinny also. (etc etc) I think given this people would opt more for balance (which would more accurately reflect reality, I think).

An idea thrown around before was you get a base number for height/weight, and it takes skill points to adjust it. Another was having weight be affected by stats as you go along.

I will have to dig that thread out, we had a good chat going about making that a functional idea here.

I joined just before the start of season 2, and it was in no way clear that Height/Weight would impact the effectiveness of your player. Now that I know this I must do something about my 5'11" "Pocket Passer" QB. It is not in the spirit of fairness that a friend of mine creating a QB the same day with similar attributes would get an advantage over my player because he was lucky enough to get a taller player!

Is their an easy way to this? How can I have the exact same attributes of my current QB, including skills, tactics, XP, special attributes, custom/regular equipment?

Can I just retire my player, recreate a player and have the mods assign all of the above to my newly created player?

I've spent decent money here and will likely continue to do so because I am enjoying this game!

Bort why not have an additional page where you can view the size of your guy before you pay flex points for him or put in an additional step where you see the size offered and if you do not like it you can hit the randomizer button again. You would be able to do this up to 3 times before you get locked in with your final selection.

I like the second idea a bit better as it will still be random sort of speak because if you have already used 2 tries at the button and your QB is now 6'2 and 200lbs do you want to take a chance on the last click and get your 6' 5" 245lbs guy or will you get stuck with that 5' 10" 185lbs guy? Its all about risk/reward and gives us some sort of control over our size.

One possible suggestion - make the height available as a selection, but also mention the type of players it is recommended for. For example, when you create a QB you can choose "create pocket passer QB" or "create scrambling QB" and the pocket passer would be taller and slower with a boost to vision while the scrambler QB would be shorter but more agile/speed points. This would make sense for almost every position. WR could be "End Zone Target" or "Speedster", etc...The cost/benefit of either should not be too dramatic, but maybe a skill point or two. You could also add 3rd levels in, where they would be in between the 2 and at medium height.

Thoughts?

heh my cb is 6'4 taller than alot of yours,

but anyway i thought all this height and weight bussienes was based on how you made your charecter at first, like if he's low on strenght then he is light, if he is strong then he is heavier

one problem with that is that player will retire there players if they don't get the height they want

You can do that now if you wish with a hit to your Flex points.

I suppose Strength could have an effect on the weight of the player (as muscle is heavier than fat), but Height is what you are stuck with really. The random element is fine (I did get a 6 ft 1 in FB so no complaints from me) but a lot of rpgs do have a reroll option that affects all the stats so maybe you could do something like that (Where all the base skills are rolled for maybe 2d6 style so you might get the good height and weight but you might get a few poor stats), that way people can keep rerolling until they get what they want, it might just take many rolls to get there =D If you link weight to strength (eg. xlb + Str) the x could be rolled for =) You could also allow them to adjust the initial skill points (eg. You could subtract 1 from Strength and add to Speed for example) at character creation before you accept the stats. If we go with the 2d6 style then you cannot start any stat above 12, so you cannot have power builds where you start with stats like 20 in one or two stats.

What does everyone think?

<prepares for the inevitable comments finding all the faults in the system that he couldn't think of>

Would be nice to see your weight go up when strength goes up and speed go down, to a capped limit of course.

Maybe the daily training ratios could be affected by weight gain and size.

I suppose you would have the maximum speed as a contribution of your speed and weight. Although I would suggest that weight has a greater effect on acceleration than speed (so being heavier makes a big impact on your first few steps)

Perhaps you should be able to put skill points into your weight.

Here's an interesting idea that would make for some heavy decision-making.

Say you are 6'4 but weigh only 170 pounds. It should be relatively easy to put weight on because of your frame. So in that case, to go up one pound, it would cost 1 skill point. To go down 1 pound, it would cost 5 skill points.

Here's the other extreme... Say you are 5'10 and weigh 280 pounds. It would cost 5 skill points to go up one pound, and 1 skill point to go down one pound.

And for the average players... Say you are 6'0 and weigh 220 pounds. It would cost 2-3 skill points to go up one pound and 2-3 skill points to go down one pound.

Going up in weight would increase the effectiveness of your strength/blocking/tackling (or decrease the effectiveness of speed/agility/jumping, and going down in weight would increase the effectiveness of your speed/agility/jumping (or decrease the effectiveness of strength/blocking/tackling).

This will give players SOME control over the physical makeup of their characters, but at a cost they might think twice to pay.
